The Los Angeles Dodgers have a plan: Just put in Clayton Kershaw as much as possible, and everything will be alright, even against the Chicago Cubs. The meme makers certainly seem to think so.
Kershaw allowed only two hits as the Dodgers tied the series with the Cubs, beating them 1-0 in Wrigley Field. The Dodgers themselves managed only 3 hits, but as their mini-panic in the previous series to squeeze as much as possible out of Kershaw suggests, they do feel that without him they lose any kind of advantage over Chicago.
But going back home and with a series tied, the Dodgers can relax about exhausting Kershaw for at least one game and give him some rest. Who knows, maybe turning to Rich Hill, Julio Urias and going back to Kenta Maeda isn’t going to be that bad.
For the Cubs, this isn’t just a Kershaw issue. They hit poorly in the series against the Giants as well, who have pretty good pitchers also. The Cubs are deep pretty much everywhere, but if this series continues to be about a hit here or there instead of more stated dominance, than all their work during the regular season could be for nothing, and the talk of curses and goats will return to dominate in Chicago.
