The title of this post is about the Cleveland Indians, but most of the memes in it, as you might expect, have to do with the Chicago Cubs being on the verge of losing the World Series.
Somehow, the Golden State Warriors are also making quite a few appearances. Why? Because until they win a championship again, their 3-1 lead that turned into nothing; their choke, will remain attached to losing. And so the Indians leading 3-1 sets up a platform for a collapse of epic proportions.
But the Warriors aren’t the Indians, and this looks more like the beginning of the end for the Cubs, at least for this season. It was an historic one for them, but it doesn’t look like this postseason means the end to the most famous championship drought in sports.
The talk is no longer about curses. It’s more about the team’s own mistakes, about the Indians pitching staff, and perfectly fitting for the age of social media, about Cubs fans shutting the hell up, as they see what looked like the best team in baseball fail again and again to do anything worthwhile offensively in the World Series.
