In a very busy night of NBA basketball, the result standing out the most was the Los Angeles Lakers crushing the Golden State Warriors, handing them their second loss this season. The San Antonio Spurs had no problem to avenge their loss to the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City, while the New York Knicks gave Derrick Rose a very happy return to the Windy City in a convincing win over the Chicago Bulls.
Atlanta Hawks 92 Â Washington Wizards 95:Â Bradley Beal had a huge second half, scoring 20 of his 28 points, as the Wizards handed the Hawks their second consecutive loss. Kent Bazemore finished with 0 points in 27 minutes, and the 20 from Dwight Howard and Dennis Schroder each didn’t help.
Miami Heat 87 Â Toronto Raptors 96:Â DeMar DeRozan scored 34 points, his fifth consecutive 30+ game to start the season, but the Raptors bench, especially Terrence Ross with 20 points, helped them improve to 4-1 this season. Hassan Whiteside, with 21 points and 16 rebounds, led the Heat.
Charlotte Hornets 99 Â Brooklyn Nets 95:Â The Nets weren’t as terrible without Jeremy Lin as some expected, but they couldn’t come back after losing the lead in the second half. It became a 1-point game again with 2 minutes to go, but the Hornets closed it out, having Kemba Walker to turn to. Walker scored 30 points, Sean Kilpatrick led the Nets with 19 points.
New York Knicks 117 Â Chicago Bulls 104:Â A bad performance by the Bulls at home, with the entire arena focused on booing Derrick Rose. Dwyane Wade scored 35 points and Jimmy Butler had 23, but the Bulls defense was completely out of sync, allowing the Knicks to shoot 51.7% from the field and turn the ball over just 5 times. Rose had 15 points and 11 assists against his former team. Kristaps Porzingis led the Knicks with 27, Carmelo Anthony had 25.
Los Angeles Clippers 99 Â Memphis Grizzlies 88:Â A great point guard’s duel may have ended in Mike Conley’s favor (outscoring Chris Paul 30-27), but the Clippers won in an ugly game of shooting (both teams shot under 38% from the field). DeAndre Jordan had 21 rebounds and the Clippers finished with 17 steals, 6 of them for Chris Paul.
Phoenix Suns 112 Â New Orleans Pelicans 111:Â The Pelicans drop their sixth straight game since the season began, including 4 at home. Devin Booker scored 38 points to lead the Suns in their overtime win, while Anthony Davis scored 22 points to lead seven players in double figures, which didn’t help the team in the end.
Portland Trail Blazers 105 Â Dallas Mavericks 95:Â The Mavericks remain winless as well, getting only 5 points from Dirk Nowitzki (just 16 minutes). Damian Lillard was sizzling, scoring 42 points (averaging 34.2 so far this season) as the Blazers bounced back from a couple of losses.
San Antonio Spurs 100 Â Utah Jazz 86:Â The Spurs get their revenge on the Jazz with a big game from Kawhi Leonard, scoring 29 points and adding 11Â rebounds. Derrick Favors back in the lineup didn’t do much good (shooting just 3-for-13), as the Jazz were held to 30-for-80 from the field, losing for the first time at home this season.
Golden State Warriors 97 Â Los Angeles Lakers 117:Â When the Warriors lose, they lose big. Kevin Durant and Draymond Green were the only ones who showed up as GS shot just 5-for-32 from beyond the arc, including 0-for-10 by Stephen Curry. Julius Randle was huge with 20 points and 14 boards, including 6 offensive ones. Lou Williams scored 20 points off the bench too.
