MLB Scores & Standings

The real opening day for Baseball is when most of the league gets in on the action. Like the Los Angeles Dodgers with Joc Pederson hitting a grand slam home run against the Padres, the New York Mets shutting out the Atlanta Braves and the Cleveland Indians staging a big comeback against the Texas Rangers, which included yet another terrific bullpen performance.

Atlanta Braves 0  New York Mets 6: Noah Syndergaard looked great in a shutout, 6-inning performance, including 7 strikeouts, while Asdrubal Cabrera was the one who got the scoring rolling for the Mets with a single in the 7th. The Mets scored all their runs in the 7th, with Ian Krol being on the mound for Atlanta when it all fell apart.

Miami Marlins 2  Washington Nationals 4: The Marlins scored twice in the 4th, including a Giancarlo Stanton RBI, to open the scoring. However, Bryce Harper and Adam Lind hit a home run each while Daniel Murphy rounded things off with an RBI single to give the Nats a win on opening day.

Pittsburgh Pirates 3  Boston Red Sox 5: The Red Sox scored all five runs in the 5th inning to take a 5-0 lead, lifted by a 3-run homer from Andrew Benintendi. The Pirates made a short comeback, but Boston’s bullpen helped Rick Porcello keep his win.

Colorado Rockies 7  Milwaukee Brewers 5: Mark Reynolds opened the game with a two-run homer to put the Rockies in front for the entire game, while Charlie Blackmon made big contribution without a single hit, as well as Greg Holland getting a save on his debut.

Toronto Blue Jays 2  Baltimore Orioles 3: Mark Trumbo, who decided to remain with the Orioles after a busy free agency period, hit an 11th inning walk off home run to start the season off right, while Jose Bautista finished with 0-for-5 after signing with the Blue Jays, the only team willing to pick him up.

San Diego Padres 3  Los Angeles Dodgers 14: The opening day blowout was highlighted by Joc Pederson hitting the first grand slam home run of the season, while Clayton Kershaw looked great through 7 innings, giving up only 2 hits and striking out 8.

Kansas City Royals 1  Minnesota Twins 7: The Twins win their first season opener since 2008 with a solo home run by Miguel Sano and a great performance by Erwin Santana, allowing only 2 hits through his 7 innings on the mound.

Philadelphia Phillies 4  Cincinnati Reds 3: Cesar Hernandez led off the game with a home run, Freddy Galvis hit one himself and Jeremy Hellickson, who also got the win, added an RBI triple while the Reds tried to play catch up but never could.

Indians Beat Rangers

Cleveland Indians 8  Texas Rangers 5: The Indians rallied from 1-5 behind, including 3 runs in the 9th to open this season with a strong contrast to how the previous one ended. Andrew Miller and Cody Allen (who else) helped the Indians shut down the Rangers in the final two innings, enabling the offense to complete the comeback.

Seattle Mariners 0  Houston Astros 3: Dallas Keuchel had a terrific shutout, giving up only 2 hits in 7 innings while striking out 4. George Springer opened the scoring with a home run, Carlos Correa continued with 2 RBIs, including a solo home run of his own.

Los Angeles Angels 2  Oakland Athletics 4: A day of home runs in Oakland, as Stephen Vogt opened with a big hit, Mike Trout responded with a 2-run homer, but Khris Davis helped out the A’s with a couple of home runs while Santiago Casilla had a nice start to his time on the other side of the bay with a save.
