The Toronto Blue Jays keep losing, this time submitting to the pitching of Chris Sale, while the power of Stephen Strasburg and Ryan Zimmerman keeps the Washington Nationals streaking, beating the Atlanta Braves to make it 4 in a row, the longest in the majors right now. Eric Thames of the Brewers keeps blasting home runs, making it to 8 this season.
Boston Red Sox 4 Toronto Blue Jays 1: One story here is Chris Sale striking out 13 in 8 innings, and has a 0.91 ERA so far. The bigger one are the Blue Jays, at 3-12, losing 5 straight series to start the season.
Cleveland Indians 6 Minnesota Twins 2: The bullpen did very well once again for the Indians (Andrew Miller still has a 0.00 ERA), Trevor Bauer did well enough through 6.1 innings to pick up the win, and Carlos Santana finished with 3 hits and 2 RBIs, putting the Indians in the game after starting it scoreless through 4 innings.
Detroit Tigers 1 Tampa Bay Rays 8: The Tigers were cold all game long with just 5 hits at 32 at bats, finding it too difficult to deal with Erasmo Ramirez and Chase Whitley. Kevin Kiermaier, Daniel Robertson and Steven Souza Jr. provided the power for the Rays with a home run each.
Los Angeles Angels 1 Houston Astros 2: France McCullers Jr. struck out 8 and Chris Devenski added 4 k’s in a 2.1 innings save effort, while homers from Carlos Beltran and Jake Marisnick provided just enough firepower to squeak past Mike Trout’s homer.
Baltimore Orioles 2 Cincinnati Reds 1: Wade Miley was terrific, striking out 11 batters while giving up just 2 hits through 8 innings. The offense came from the bats of Jonathan Schoop (with a home run) and J.J. Hardy, hitting the game winning single in the 10th.
Philadelphia Phillies 6 New York Mets 4: Maikel Franco stood out with a couple of RBIs: One of them a double in the 3rd inning, the other coming from a solo homer in the 8th inning that sealed the deal.
Washington Nationals 3 Atlanta Braves 2: Ryan Zimmerman hit his 5th home run in the season, a two-run shot that took the Nats from behind and put them in the lead for good. Stephen Strasburg struck out 10 through 7 innings to pick up the win.
Kansas City Royals 0 Texas Rangers 1: Andrew Cashner and a horde of relievers kept the Royals scoreless, while an RBI single from Delino DeShields in the 13th inning provided the Rangers with the walk-off win.
St. Louis Cardinals 5 Milwaukee Brewers 7: The Brewers blasted three home runs past the Cardinals, two off of Carlos Martinez who is having a rough start to the season (0-3, 4.76 ERA); for Eric Thames it was his 8th of the season, finishing with two RBIs.
Arizona Diamondbacks 1 San Diego Padres 4: Clayton Richard did give up 9 hits in 6.2 innings, but he also struck out 8, and the Diamondbacks were just 1-for-9 with runners in scoring positions through the game. Home runs from Wil Myers and Austin Hedges did the rest.
Seattle Mariners 6 Oakland Athletics 9: Cesar Valdez didn’t do very well in his start, but the A’s survived his weak outing thanks to a 3-run homer by Trevor Plouffe, with offensive help from Ryon Healy and Adam Rosales.
