MLB Scores & Standings

A day full of cancelled and postponed games due to spring showers, while the Chicago Cubs needed some Phillies errors to win in extra innings, the Washington Nationals continue to surge with Max Scherzer’s smoking pitchers and the Baltimore Orioles concluded their turbulent series in Boston with an impressive win over the Red Sox.

Philadelphia Phillies 4  Chicago Cubs 5: The Cubs win their 3rd in a row, needing 13 innings to take care of the Phillies. A throwing error by Freddy Galvis allowed Albert Almora Jr. to move up from second to score the winning run. Earlier, Miguel Montero hit his 3rd home run of the season to send the game into extra innings.

Pittsburgh Pirates 2  Cincinnati Reds 4: Two RBIs from Joey Votto and two from Adam Duvall took care of the offense for the Reds, moving back up to .500. Tim Adelman looked good in his 6-innings start, striking out 5 and recorded his first major league win this season.

Max Scherzer

Arizona Diamondbacks 2  Washington Nationals 4: Max Scherzer struck out 11 batters while providing a little bit of offense himself in a dominant win for the best offense in the majors, including a couple of RBIs from Anthony Rendon.

Oakland Athletics 8  Minnesota Twins 5: The A’s stop their losing with Jharel Cotton striking out 9 in a 6-inning performance, that included giving up 3 hits and 3 runs. Ryon Healy helped with a home run, Stephen Vogt added two RBIs with a big double in the 8th.

Texas Rangers 10  Houston Astros 4: It’s been a rough season for the Rangers fo sfar, but they looked good in Houston with home runs by Rougned Odor, Joey Gallo and Elvis Andrus, all the while A.J. Griffin had another good day on the mound, striking out 7 in just 5 innings of work.

Chicago White Sox 8  Kansas City Royals 3: Things continue to look miserable for the Royals, while the White Sox are on top of the AL Central. Derek Holland struck out 7 in 6.2 innings of work, while the offense of Jose Abreu and Matt Davidson did most of the heavy lifting with a home run each.

Colorado Rockies 3  San Diego Padres 2: The Rockies win in 11 winnings, getting the clincher from Ryan Hanigan, who had a strong day with 3 hits and 2 RBIs, including a 2-out home run in the 7th inning.

Manny Machado, Jonathan Schoop

Baltimore Orioles 8  Boston Red Sox 3: The nastiest series in the land wrapped up with the teams splitting the 4 games. Manny Machado had a couple of hits and 3 RBIs, all from a 2-out home run in the 4th inning to break the tie. Tyler Wilson wasn’t great in his start, but his bullpen pulled him through for a recorded win.

Miami Marlins 1  Tampa Bay Rays 5: Matt Andriese looked great on the mound with 8 strikeouts in 7 innings of work, but most of the applause goes to Tim Beckham, who hit two home runs, both of them with 2 outs, to finish with 4 RBIs and improve to 6 HR and 15 RBIs this season.

Milwaukee Brewers 5  St. Louis Cardinals 4: Home runs from unlikely heroes, Keon Broxton (2nd of the season) and pinch hitter Jesus Aguilar (1st this season) provided the big turnaround for the Brewers, who are now once more above .500, sitting on the tail of the Cubs.

Los Angeles Angels 3  Seattle Mariners 11: Ariel Miranda allowed 2 hits while striking out 5 in 7 innings, Danny Valencia hit a home run and finished with 3 RBIs, and the Mariners have won 2 in a row, trying to get out of their early season slump.
