The Texans Rangers extend the longest winning streak in baseball with an impressive offensive showing against the poor Philadelphia Phillies. In the NL Central, both the Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs picked up their 3rd consecutive win, as the Cubs keep chasing their geographical neighbours, who lead the division.
Cincinnati Reds 5 Chicago Cubs 9: Big hitting day for the Cubs, as Javier Baez hits a grand slam home run and Kris Bryant slugged a solo homer with 2 out. Jon Lester did give up 3 runs but looked in command most of the time with 5 strikeouts in 6 innings, while Koji Uehara picked up the save.
Washington Nationals 4 Pittsburgh Pirates 10: It’s rare to see the Nationals this season struggle to put on points, and even rarer to see them give up so many runs. Tanner Roark had a bad day on the mound, while Josh Bell started out the game with a 2-run homer (9th this season), helped later by Adam Frazier, who finished with 4 RBIs.
Baltimore Orioles 5 Detroit Tigers 6: Dylan Bundy gave up two home runs in his start for the Orioles, one of them a 3-run bomb by J.D. Martinez which gave the Tigers their first score of the game. Jordan Zimmermann settled down for Detroit after a slow start, and Shane Greene, with 2k’s in 1.2 innings, stood out among the relievers.
Colorado Rockies 5 Minnesota Twins 1: Nolan Arenado hit his 10th home run of the season and Mark Reynolds added a couple of RBIs, while the Twins ended up blowing a lot of opportunities to make it more competitive, finishing with 0-for-9 with runners left on base.
Colorado Rockies 0 Minnesota Twins 2: The Twins won the second half of the double header, thanks to Jose Berrios putting on a lights out performance, striking out 11 in 7.2 innings, while Robbie Grossman and Max Kepler provided the offense.
Philadelphia Phillies 4 Texas Rangers 8: The Rangers are doing brilliantly for the last two weeks, now on a 9-game winning streak. Martin Perez struck out 8 in 7 innings of work, while Ryan Rua stood out among the offensive support with a 3-run homer.
Milwaukee Brewers 4 San Diego Padres 2: The best team in the NL Central enjoyed a big day from leadoff hitter Eric Sogard, getting 4 hits and 3 RBIs, while the relievers held the Padres without a hit after the 6th inning.
Toronto Blue Jays 9 Atlanta Braves 0: Marcus Stroman looked very good on the mound with 5.2 innings of shutting down the Braves, while also hitting a home run in a blowout that included 3 Blue Jays players hitting their first home runs of the season.
New York Yankees 1 Kansas City Royals 5: Danny Duffy threw 7 dominant innings, striking out 10 while giving up only 3 hits and 2 walks. Mike Moustakas provided 3 runs with his 10th home run of the season, which didn’t change the bottom dweller status for the Royals.
Boston Red Sox 3 Oakland Athletics 8: The Red Sox were held to just 3 hits. The A’s hit 3 home runs, including the 12th this season by Khris Davis.
Chicago White Sox 4 Seattle Mariners 5: Guillermo Heredia came on to pinch hit in the 9th inning and delivered a walk-off single, ruining an impressive comeback effort by the White Sox, coming back from 0-4 down with 3 home runs.
Miami Marlins 2 Los Angeles Dodgers 7: Despite the win, the Dodgers weren’t happy with Justin Turner injuring his hamstring. As far as actual performances are concerned, Hyun-Jin Ryu looked dominant and the bullpen even more so. Yasiel Puig stood out with a 2-run homer, hit 8th of the season.
