Three of the four teams with the best records in the majors lost, including consecutive losses for the New York Yankees and Washington Nationals. Meanwhile, the Colorado Rockies showed off their power in Cincinnati through Alexi Amarista, and the Texas Rangers continued to wreak havoc with their 10th consecutive win.
Arizona Diamondbacks 10 San Diego Padres 1: The surprising Diamondbacks have no problem against the terrible Padres, led by 2 home runs from Jake Lamb, already getting to 11 this season, on pace to beat his career high from last season of 29.
Boston Red Sox 2 Oakland Athletics 3: A 2nd straight loss for the Red Sox, opening the game with a 2-run homer by Mitch Moreland but not doing anything after. It ended in the 10th inning, when Heath Hembree gave up a home run to Mark Canha for the walk-off win.
Chicago White Sox 2 Seattle Mariners 1: Jose Quintana was terrific, giving up just one hit while striking out 7 in an 8-inning performance, followed by a David Robertson save, as the offense of Jose Abreu and Melky Cabrera won the game.
Cleveland Indians 5 Houston Astros 3: The Indians needed a spark after a slow start, and got it from Edwin Encarnacion in the 4th inning, delivering 2 runs with his 7th home run of the season. Jason Kipnis and Lonnie Chisenhall followed suit with homers of their own to slow down the red hot Astros.
Colorado Rockies 12 Cincinnati Reds 6: The Rockies sent the Reds to their 7th consecutive loss behind a big day for Alexi Amarista, driving in 4 runs and hitting a home run. Nolan Arenado also delivered a big hit, his 11th home run this season.
Kansas City Royals 3 Minnesota Twins 4: The Twins need some late magic to beat the worst team in the division. First it was Kennys Vargas on pinch-hitting duty with a game-tying home run in the 9th, followed by a sacrifice fly from Jorge Polanco in the 10th inning for the walk-off win.
Los Angeles Angels 0 New York Mets 3: A dominant Jacob deGrom performance (7 innings, 9 strikeouts, 4 hits, 3 walks) paved the way for the Mets to stop their losing. The Mets only had 6 hits in the game, one of them a Michael Conforto home run.
Miami Marlins 2 Los Angeles Dodgers 7: A little bit of fighting after Giancarlo Stanton got hit by a pitch didn’t stop the Dodgers from picking up a 3rd straight win, remaining two games behind the Rockies. Chris Taylor, Brett Einer and Cody Bellinger hit home runs, while the pitching of Alex Wood was too much for the sinking Marlins.
Milwaukee Brewers 6 Chicago Cubs 3: The Brewers pick up their fourth win in a row to open a 3 game lead over the Cubs. Kyle Schwarber made two errors on one play in a bad day for the World Series champions, with Domingo Santana and Jett Bandy picking up 2 RBIs each as the Brewers pulled a big comeback in the 5th and 6th innings.
New York Yankees 4 Tampa Bay Rays 5: A big day for Evan Longoria, including 4 hits and the tiebreaking RBI in the 8th inning, giving the Rays the win after Alex Colome completed an uneventful closing inning off the mound, picking up save number 11 this season.
Philadelphia Phillies 7 Pittsburgh Pirates 2: Jeremy Hellickson continues to be one of the sole bright spots for the Phillies, giving up 2 hits and 2 runs in 6 innings, while the offense of Cameron Rupp, hitting a 3-run homer in the 9th, did the rest.
San Francisco Giants 6 St. Louis Cardinals 5: The Giants rallied from 3-5 down in the 7th to win the game, first with an RBI from Denard Span in the 8th to get close, followed by a game winning, 2-RBI double by Eduardo Nunez, while Mark Melancon followed, not letting the game slip away on his watch.
Texas Rangers 5 Detroit Tigers 3: The Rangers win their 10th in a row as they try to make up for lost ground in the AL West. Home runs from Joey Gallo (13th this season) and Mike Napoli (3rd) provided most of the firepower.
Toronto Blue Jays 3 Baltimore Orioles 5: The Orioles owe the win to Welington Castillo and his two home runs. The first came in the 6th inning, a 2-run shot that tied the game. The second came in the 10th inning, another 2-run homer, this time providing the walk-off win.
Washington Nationals 4 Atlanta Braves 7: The Nats entered the 8th with a one-run lead. Then Kurt Suzuki tied the game with an RBI single, Nick Markakis gave the Braves the lead with one of his own in the 8th, followed by a Suzuki home run, his third of the season, finishing things off.
