No longer the Liverpool manager, but still a fan favorite at Anfield. Currently between jobs (maybe at Anfield some day soon), Benitez participated in the 22nd memorial ceremony at Anfield for the Hillsborough disaster, remembering and cherishing the 96 fans who died that day in Sheffield.
Never an easy ceremony to go through with a teary eye, I’m sure plenty of people who usually stay ‘dry’ started weeping, triggered by the cameras on Benitez, that despite being known or at least characterized as somewhat of an unpopular character among players and in the dressing rooms, is a bit more sensitive than usually described.
