The New York Yankees got to slow down the Boston Red Sox in the opener to another weekend series between the rivals. The St. Louis Cardinals now have the major’s longest winning streak, while the San Diego Padres got to stun the Los Angeles Dodgers with a couple of late home runs.

Atlanta Braves 5  St. Louis Cardinals 8: The Cards win their 7th in a row, dominating early and late. Paul DeJong finished with 3 RBIs on 2 hits and Adam Wainwright picked up win number 12 this season on 5 innings of work.

Baltimore Orioles 4  Oakland Athletics 5: The A’s stop the losing streak thanks to a home run from Matt Olson and the work of the bullpen, including Santiago Casilla who picked up the win.

Yankees beat Red Sox

Boston Red Sox 4  New York Yankees 5: The Red Sox opened with 3 runs, but the Yankees responded with 5 in the 8th, beginning with a 2-run homer by Aaron Hicks and finishing with Aroldis Chapman in a shaky save.

Chicago Cubs 8  Arizona Diamondbacks 3: The Cubs maintain their one game lead in the NL Central with a comfortable win over the D-Backs, which included home runs from Kyle Schwarber and Alex Avila.

Cincinnati Reds 11  Milwaukee Brewers 10: In a game with non-stop offense, the players who stood out were Zack Cozart and Eugenio Suarez for the Reds, both with 3 hits, and Eric Thames on the Brewers, getting 3 hits and 3 RBIs.

Cleveland Indians 5  Tampa Bay Rays 0: Carlos Carrasco looked terrific in the 8-inning shutout, giving up just 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 10 batters. Among the offense producers was Edwin Encarnacion, hitting his 23rd home run of the season.

Colorado Rockies 3  Miami Marlins 6: Giancarlo Stanton hit his 40th home run of the season, as the Marlins came back from 1-3 down to score 5 runs in the 6th and 8th, including a 2-RBI single by Tomas Telis.

Houston Astros 4  Texas Rangers 6: The first game of the latest edition of this Texas rivalry had a surprising finish, as the Astros lost their 4th consecutive game. The Rangers ran to a 6-0 lead before letting it slightly slip away from them, with Nomar Mazara and Joey Gallo both picking up 2 RBIs.

Kansas City Royals 3  Chicago White Sox 6: The Royals lose their 5th straight game to fall under .500, as Reynaldo Lopez put in a strong performance in his White Sox debut, while Tim Anderson hit a two-run homer.

Los Angeles Angels 6  Seattle Mariners 5: The Angels match the Mariners at 59-58, coming back from 4 runs down entering the 7th. Albert Pujols’ single started the run, and C.J. Cron grounding in to shortstop combined with an error by Jean Segura allowed Mike Trout to score the winning run.

Minnesota Twins 9  Detroit Tigers 4: The Twins keep the pressure on the Indians and their sights on a playoff spot with an impressive offensive display that included 3 RBIs for both Max Kepler and Eddie Rosario, the latter hitting his 15th home run of the season.

New York Mets 7  Philadelphia Phillies 6: In a topsy turvy game, it was Amed Rosario hitting his first home run that finished the job, breaking a 6-6 tie in the 9th before A.J. Ramos got the save.

Pittsburgh Pirates 4  Toronto Blue Jays 2: The Pirates are at .500 again, despite Andrew McCutchen leaving the game with a sore knee. Jameson Taillon was sharp on the mound for 6 innings, and the Pirates scored all of their runs in the 3rd innings.

San Diego Padres 4  Los Angeles Dodgers 3: Despite 3 hits and 2 RBIs from Cody Bellinger, the Padres topped their Northern neighbours, with home runs from Manuel Margot and Jose Pirela turning the game around after heading into the 7th behind by one run.
