The Los Angeles Dodgers losing doesn’t change much for them, while the Chicago Cubs continue their hot form against the Toronto Blue Jays and the Boston Red Sox get back to winning against the New York Yankees, opening a 5-game lead in the AL East.
Arizona Diamondbacks 5 Minnesota Twins 12: The Twins win for the 4th time in a row, scoring 9 runs in the first inning to finish things early. This included a grand slam home run by Eddie Rosario, with one of the hottest bats in the majors right now.
Chicago White Sox 3 Texas Rangers 2: Any White Sox win is a surprise, this one coming through terrific Miguel Gonzalez pitching and the offense of Tyler Saladino, with a couple of RBIs.
Cincinnati Reds 1 Atlanta Braves 8: Tyler Flowers hit a grand slam home run, Sean Newcomb looked dominant on the mound for once and the Reds fell to 19 games under .500.
Cleveland Indians 4 Kansas City Royals 7: The Royals move back up to one game above .500, hoping to build some momentum towards September and maybe a playoff push. Jason Hammel wasn’t great, but offense from Alcides Escobar and Cheslor Cuthbert got him the win.
Los Angeles Angels 5 Baltimore Orioles 4: The 2nd win in a row for the Angels over the O’s, that included home runs from Kevin Calhoun and Andrelton Simmons. A single by Cameron Maybin in pinch duty during the 8th inning broke the tie and won the game for the Angels.
Los Angeles Dodgers 1 Detroit Tigers 6: An off day for the Dodgers, with Kenta Maeda doing poorly. Justin Verlander was terrific, giving up only 2 hits in 8 innings, also striking out 9. Justin Upton and Miguel Cabrera both had a couple of RBIs.
Miami Marlins 6 New York Mets 4: Giancarlo Stanton is back to hitting home runs, a 3-run homer in the 7th inning to give his team a 4-run lead, his 45th of the season. Dee Gordon scored twice on Christian Yelich singles and impressive running.
Milwaukee Brewers 8 Colorado Rockies 4: The Brewers keep up with the Cubs (2 games behind) thanks to the power of Jesus Aguilar, hitting two home runs to bring up his tally to 14 this season.
New York Yankees 1 Boston Red Sox 5: The Red Sox open a 5-game lead in the AL East over the Yankees, with Rick Porcello giving up only 3 hits in 6 innings while striking out 4, with Jackie Bradley Jr. at his best with 2 hits and 3 RBIs.
Oakland Athletics 3 Houston Astros 2: The Astros continue to show inconsistency recently, falling behind early due to a couple of errors, and struggling against some strong pitching, including from Blake Treinen with 3 strikeouts in 2 innings to close the game.
Philadelphia Phillies 5 San Francisco Giants 2: Ben Lively did some solid work through 6 innings of pitching for the Phillies, but the game was one with late offense in the 8th and 9th innings – Jorge Alfaro, Pedro Florimon and Rhys Hoskins putting runs on the board.
Seattle Mariners 0 Tampa Bay Rays 3: Blake Snell leads the shutout, allowing only 2 hits in 7 innings while striking out 7. The Rays had only 5 hits, but two of them were home runs, including Kevin Kiermaier with his 8th of the season.
St. Louis Cardinals 3 Pittsburgh Pirates 6: In the close positioning race of the NL Central, the Cards lost some ground by dropping another game in Pittsburgh. Ivan Nova wasn’t great, but he wasn’t Mike Leake bad, which turned out to be enough for the Pirates.
Toronto Blue Jays 5 Chicago Cubs 6: A 3rd straight win for the Cubs, holding a 2-game lead in the NL Central. Toronto opened a 2-run lead in the 10th inning, but a wild pitch allowed Kyle Schwarber to bring his team to within a run, followed by Alex Avila with a shallow hit that turned into a 2-RBI single for a walk-off win.
Washington Nationals 4 San Diego Padres 1: Gio Gonzalez struck out 8 batters in 6.2 innings, followed by terrific bullpen pitching. Offense was carried by Daniel Murphy, picking up two RBIs to reach 81 on the season.
