Premier League Fantasy: Best Players in Gameweek 2

Gameweek 2 of fantasy Premier League is behind us, so let’s check out who stood out during this week and the overall leaders. Once again, Manchester United players like Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba are making an appearance, while Jack Butland and Marcos Alonso show up thanks to terrific performances.

Goalkeepers

Jack Butland

Jack Butland, Stoke: Butland got 11 points in Stoke’s 1-0 win over Arsenal thanks to keeping a clean sheet, pulling off 6 saves and getting the 3-point bonus, taking him up to 14 points. Valued at £5 million, he is owned by 3.3% of teams.

Other notable keepers this week are Wayne Hennessey of Crystal Palace with 9 points and Jonas Lössl of Huddersfield with 8 points. Lössl leads all goalkeepers after two gameweeks with 17 points and is owned by 4.3% of teams.

Defenders

Marcos Alonso

Marcos Alonso, Chelsea: The star of Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Tottenham at Wembley, Alonso bounced back from a 0 points performance in week 1 with 16 points. He scored two goals and got the 3 point bonus. Alonso is worth £7 million, and is owned by 15.1% of teams.

Two other players who stood out among defenders are Eric Bailly of Manchester United and Harry Maguire of Leicester City, both picking up 15 points in their team’s wins. Both scored one goal, kept clean sheets and earned 3 bonus points.

As for the overall leader among defenders, it is Ahmed Hegazi of West Brom with a total of 23 points, adding 8 points this week to his tally thanks to another clean sheet. Costing £4.7 million, he is owned by 18.8% of teams.

Midfielders

Paul Pogba

Paul Pogba, Manchester United: Head and shoulders above the rest, Pogba led all midfielders with 15 points in week 2, spearheading United’s 4-0 win over Swansea. One goal, two assists and a clean sheet as well as 2 bonus points added to his impressive score, as no one is making jokes about his signing so far. Pogba costs £8.1 million, and is owned by 30.5% of teams.

Pogba is the overall leader among midfielders with 23 points. After him comes teammate Henrikh Mkhitaryan with 21 points, who added 2 assists and a clean sheet, just like last week, in an impressive start for him too.

Forwards

Javier Hernandez

Javier Hernandez (Chicharito), West Ham: Chicharito was the only forward this week in double figure points, scoring two goals in West Ham’s 3-2 loss to Southampton, both of them coming off rebounds. Despite the loss, he got the 3 bonus points along with the brace, making it to 13 points in week 2 and to a total of 15. Worth £7.1 million, he is owned by 25% of fantasy managers.

The overall leaders among forwards is another Manchester United player, Romelu Lukaku. Lukaku has 19 points, getting 6 this week for his goal in the 4-0 win over Swansea.

Final Number

Lukaku is by far the most popular player among fantasy owners, appearing on 56.8% of teams. Another Manchester United player in the top 5 is Pogba, with 30.5% of teams selecting him. Completing the top 5 are Dele Alli of Spurs on 36.1% of teams, David de Gea (also Manchester United) on 33.6% of sides and Harry Kane (also Spurs), despite the disappointing start, on 30% of teams. The most popular non-United or Spurs player in fantasy right now is Mohamed Salah of Liverpool, appearing on 26.2% of teams, most of them disappointed he only came off the bench in week 2.
