On the usual short schedule of Thursday, the Cleveland Indians stood out with their 15th consecutive win. The Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees both looked impressive, while the team with the best record in the majors, the Los Angeles Dodgers, kept their inexplicable nose dive, even with Clayton Kershaw on the mound.
Chicago Cubs 8 Pittsburgh Pirates 2: The Cubs keep bouncing the Pirates, this time with ease. Jon Lester picked up the win and even an RBI, while Anthony Rizzo, with 2 hits, moved up to 102 RBIs this season.
Cleveland Indians 11 Chicago White Sox 2: The 15th consecutive win for the Indians, a franchise record. Corey Kluber was on fire with 13 strikeouts in 7 innings, getting plenty of run support, including Edwin Encarnacion with home run number 33 this season, and Erik Gonzalez with two home runs and 4 RBIs.
Cincinnati Reds 2 New York Mets 7: The Mets pick up a second straight win (not happened too often this season), getting a couple of home runs from the talented Brandon Nimmo. Matt Harvey, a massive disappointment this season, looked OK for once.
Colorado Rockies 9 Los Angeles Dodgers 1: Things keep looking poor for the Dodgers, this time as Clayton Kershaw doesn’t even get out of the 4th inning. The Dodgers lost their 12th in 13 games, while Nolan Arenado and Carlos Gonzalez led the Rockies with their home runs.
Miami Marlins 5 Atlanta Braves 6: The Marlins started with a 3-0 lead and had a one run lead heading into the 9th, but Ozzie Albies and Kurt Suzuki made sure the Braves got their second straight win.
Minnesota Twins 4 Kansas City Royals 2: Kelvin Herrera decided to implode at the wrong time, giving up 3 runs in the 9th inning, letting the Twins slip away with the win. Jorge Polanco hit the game winning, 2-RBI swing.
New York Yankees 9 Baltimore Orioles 1: The Yankees claim their series in Baltimore with a 4-home run performance, including number 39 this season for Aaron Judge, a 2-run homer with 2 outs in the 1st inning. Sonny Gray looked solid in 5.2 innings, striking out 5.
Philadelphia Phillies 3 Washington Nationals 4: The Phillies held a 3-1 lead heading into the 6th, but Matt Wieters brought the Nats closer and Trea Turner’s 2-RBI single won them the game, moving up 86 wins.
St. Louis Cardinals 0 San Diego Padres 3: After a nice run, the Cardinals had to be stopped. Turns out the Padres got tired of losing, as Wil Myers hit his 25th home run of the season and Clayton Richard, along with a solid bullpen performance, finally put in a start-to-finish consistent performance.
