Nothing is bigger right now than the Cleveland Indians torching the majors, winning their 17th game in a row. Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Brewers kept their & the St. Louis Cardinals hopes of chasing down the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central alive by clobbering the division leaders.
Baltimore Orioles 2 Cleveland Indians 4: Win number 17 in a row for the Indians, enjoying terrific bullpen pitching (one hit allowed in 4 innings) while Francisco Lindor stood out by hitting his 28th home run of the season.
Cincinnati Reds 1 New York Mets 6: The Mets held the Reds to only 4 hits, with the W going to Rafael Montero in 5 innings of work. Offensively, it was Norichika Aoki and Kevin Plawecki who stood out, the latter hitting a home run too.
Colorado Rockies 6 Los Angeles Dodgers 5: The Dodgers losing their 9th in a row still gives them a 10-game cushion on top of the NL West. Trevor Story excelled for the Rockies with 2-for-5 at the plate and finishing with 3 RBIs.
Detroit Tigers 4 Toronto Blue Jays 5: The Tigers had a strong start thanks to Miguel Cabrera, but the Blue Jays came back and broke the tie through Kevin Pillar’s 15th home run of the season, finishing the game with 4-for-4 at the plate.
Houston Astros 1 Oakland Athletics 11: The Astros walk in five scored runs, unable to cope with Daniel Gossett and the A’s bullpen pitching. Boog Powell was the best of the Astros hitters, finishing with 3-for-4 and 2 RBIs.
Houston Astros 4 Oakland Athletics 14: The Athletics completed a 25-5 double header demolition of the Astros, that included Chad Pinder hitting two home runs in the second game.
Los Angeles Angels 1 Seattle Mariners 8: The Mariners get a good day on the mound from Andrew Albers, while Nelson Cruz brought the firepower with his 32nd home run of the season, a 3-run homer in this case.
Miami Marlins 5 Atlanta Braves 6: With the game tied 5-5 in the 9th, the Marlins watched the Braves load the bases, and eventually win the game on a walk-off walk by Ender Inciarte. Earlier, Giancarlo Stanton hit his 54th home run of the season.
Milwaukee Brewers 15 Chicago Cubs 2: In a demolition win that put the Brewers 3 games behind the Cubs in the NL Central, things got out of hand in the 3rd inning, when the Brewers scored 8 runs. Out of everything, there was just one home run, hit by Hernan Perez, who finished the game with 5 RBIs.
Minnesota Twins 2 Kansas City Royals 5: The game was tied at 2-2 entering the 8th, but Eric Hosmer hit a big RBI single to the right which started a 3-run inning, before Brandon Maurer closed the game from the mound.
New York Yankees 3 Texas Rangers 1: Aroldis Chapman is no longer the designated closer, but he did pick up the save with a strong 1-inning performance, while Chase Headley finished with two RBIs, one for a Sac Fly and the other for walking when the bases were loaded.
Philadelphia Phillies 5 Washington Nationals 4: Three scored runs by the Phillies in the 4th opened a 4-run lead, enough of a cushion against the slightly lethargic Nations. Rhys Hoskins stood out with a couple of RBIs, leading the Phillies.
Pittsburgh Pirates 3 St. Louis Cardinals 4: The Pirates had the lead in the 7th after Adam Frazier scored an inside-the-park home run, but Matt Carpenter responded with his 19th home run of the season and Randal Grichuk grounding out to third was enough to add another run, putting the Cards 3 games behind the Cubs.
San Diego Padres 8 Arizona Diamondbacks 7: The Padres scored 6 runs in the 9th inning to cap off a massive comeback from 0-6 down, including two home runs by Wil Myers (4 RBIs) and got the win through a Carlos Asuaje hitting a two-RBI single, aided by David Peralta making a terrible mistake.
San Francisco Giants 1 Chicago White Sox 13: A horrific performance from Jeff Samardzija, giving up four home runs, resulted in the landslide win for the White Sox. Yolmer Sanchez and Jose Abreu both finished with 3 RBIs, each hitting a home run.
Tampa Bay Rays 0 Boston Red Sox 9: The Red Sox shut out the Rays to maintain their 4.5 game lead in the AL Central. Chris Sale (who else) did allow 6 hits, but struck out 8 and improved his ERA to 2.76. Dustin Pedroia hit the team’s only home run, his 7th of the season; a 2-run shot that opened the game.
