The New York Yankees were the butt of the joke following game 7 in the ALCS, losing to the Houston Astros, who on their way to the World Series helped launch plenty of memes making fun of the Bronx Bombers.

There’s nothing to be ashamed of a very good season for the Yankees, resulting in game 7, coming back from 0-2 down, in the ALCS, before losing. But these are the Yankees, and this is the era of memes, and so of course they’re being made fun of.

The Astros will be heading to the World Series for the second time in franchise history. The previous time was in 2005, when they were playing in the NL Central. Now they’re coming from the AL West, after the best regular season (101 wins) in franchise history, to face the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Yankees have plenty to look forward to considering their young talent, but it doesn’t take the pain away from coming so close to the World Series and falling at the finish line. The TV networks probably preferred the Yankees in the World Series, but they’ll have to live with the disappointment.
