Liverpool won a third consecutive league match to put them right on the trail of everyone in the top 4 except for Manchester City, winning 3-0 at home against Southampton. The match started with Mohamed Salah scoring what we decided was the best goal in the league this Saturday.
Salah might be the hottest player in Europe right now. The Egyptian forward now leads the Premier League in goals with 9, following his brace against Southampton, with the third goal scored by Philippe Coutinho, who is also quietly having a very good season despite the cloud of rumors regarding Barcelona.
Salah’s first goal was a tad uncharacteristic of him when you compare it to other goals he’s scored this season, most of them on the counter attack.
This time, in the 31st minute, he received the ball on the edge of the penalty box with space and a comfortable angle for a left-footed player. He struck a beautiful curling shot above the defense, making it impossible for Fraser Forster to reach the ball.
Salah’s second goal came close to the half time whistle. This time, while Liverpool were moving the ball in midfield, he slipped behind the defense, and a terrific through ball by Coutinho found him in a comfortable position to add another.
With the win, Liverpool have 22 points through 12 matches, putting them at 5th, just one point behind Tottenham at 4th and three points behind Chelsea who should drop to 3rd once Manchester United complete what looks like a win over Newcastle.
