It happened again. The New England Patriots were in trouble, and they got a combination of people and things to help them: The referees, Mike Tomlin and Ben Roethlisberger, messing it up for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Maybe the NFL should be the most angry party in this. Instead of people talking about how great of a game it was (Pats winning 27-24 in Pittsburgh), they’ll be talking about how no one knows what the catch rule actually means.

If it doesn’t mean that what Jesse James did was a touchdown, then it’s time to change the rule. The Patriots escaped a loss once again in a big game thanks to the officials making a big mistake in their favor. The Steelers could have forced overtime, but Tomlin/Roethlisberger finished the job started by the officials.

What does this all mean? This NFL season started with the Patriots as massive favorites, and now that they have control of the AFC, the weaker conference, it’s hard to see anyone stopping them from reaching the Super Bowl for the 8th time in the Brady-Belichick era.
