The 2017 College Football Playoff national championship game will go down in history for a number of reasons, all etched down by terrific memes: Georgia choking away a historic title, and Tua Tagovailoa coming off the bench to turn himself into a legend.
The backup Crimson Tide quarterback threw the game and championship winning touchdown in overtime, as Alabama completed a comeback from 0-13 down to win 26-23. Jalen Hurts was awful, completing only 3 passes for 21 yards before he got benched. Tagovailoa did throw an interception, but also 3 touchdown passes that saved Bama.
Nick saban tied Bear Bryant with his fifth national championship in nine seasons with the Crimson Tide and sixth in his career (one with LSU). Alabama didn’t win the SEC, but wound up in the CFP anyway, and after wins over Clemson and Georgia, no one can say they didn’t deserve to get there.
And the Bulldogs? Finally they got to where their talent is often expected to take them, but they couldn’t get the job done. Just like the Falcons 11 months ago, they went up against the favorites, dominated, but let it slip out of their hands.
