The biggest moment of every NCAA Tournament for meme makers is when Duke get knocked out. This year, we had to wait until the Elite Eight and Kansas to see it happen.

Honestly, it takes the sting away. Duke lost to a very good, blue-blood team, at a late stage, and they got further than North Carolina, who in the last two years made the championship game. And still, Duke had a loaded team with one and done talent, so it’s hard not to gloat just a bit when they find their way out.

Interestingly, Coach K went with senior Grayson Allen all game long, and was repaid with big miss after big miss, including a potential game winning shot, instead of going to overtime. Allen did finally hit one in overtime, but the game was lost by that point.

For Kansas, it’s an even more difficult text coming up: Villanova, another number one seed, maybe the best team in the country. In their first Final Four since 2012, the least heralded Jayhawks crew of the last five years might be the one that gives Bill Self his second national championship.
