The AFC & NFL are waking up to a new morning. And it’s not just with awesome memes about how the Kansas City Chiefs choked away a win against Philip Rivers & the Los Angeles Chargers.
The main thought passing through everyone’s head right now: Are the Chargers the best team in the AFC, perhaps the NFL? Rivers has had “Big Balls” wins before, not letting earlier mistakes (like two interceptions) get to him. But at 11-3, with wins in Seattle, Pittsburgh and now Arrowhead, it’s impossible not to take them seriously.
And it’s suddenly hard not to watch at the flaws of the Chiefs with a more critical eye: Andy Reid is an offensive genius, but he’s awful at clock management. Patrick Mahomes relies too much on his feet and instincts. The secondary, which was the unit that lost the game, is one huge achilles heel.
And what about the refs? Sure. They played their part too. By not giving Rivers the call he wanted and deserved after a late tackle on him by Justin Houston, the officials were super quick to call a super soft pass interference in the end zone, allowing the Chargers to score a touchdown with 4 seconds to go, and then complete the gutsy 2-point conversion for the win.
