Returning to New York City to play the Brooklyn Nets for the first time since being traded to the Atlanta Hawks, Jeremy Lin didn’t have a game worth remembering.

It would seem that jumping straight back into his red-hot November form isn’t so easy following the two minor injuries that ended his momentum. Nor is it easy to get big minutes from coach Lloyd Pierce, who doesn’t mind pulling any of his players off the court if he feels he’s not getting anything from them. However, if the Hawks are indeed tanking and Lin is trade bait, 13 minutes to flaunt his abilities isn’t going to be enough.

Not that Lin did a whole lot with his 13 minutes. He scored 6 points on 2-for-5 from the field, including 3 misses three-pointers and a rare 2-for-4 from the line. He had a nice, high toss for a layup in the second half when the Hawks got back in the game, but that was about it for him in terms of making shots. On the other end, the Nets didn’t stop making them, finishing with 144 points in a 17-point win, led by D’Angelo Russell and his 32 points.

The Hawks do get some time off now before a home game against the Washington Wizards. Whether Lin sees an uptick in his minutes is obviously up to how Lloyd Pierce views his place in the weird thing the Hawks have going on, but even with limited minutes, Lin needed to do more than what he produced in Brooklyn. 

You can’t really blame a player for inconsistency when his time on the floor is inconsistent and injury setbacks take their toll not just on his ability but perhaps more on his confidence. It would just be nice to see more next time.
