Fans always need someone to blame. Meme makers always need someone to make fun of. Alshon Jeffery “won” the honors after the New Orleans Saints knocked the Philadelphia Eagles out of the playoffs.
It wasn’t just a loss for the Eagles. It was a choke job. They led 14-0 in the first quarter, but were shut out in the final 50 minutes of the game, as the Saints, far from slick in their execution, slowly chipped away at the lead until they finally took over the game and never let go.
Drew Brees and co. looked shaky to start the game; perhaps rust from the bye week, which isn’t something new. But they bounced back, and now head into the NFC title game a lot more prepared an in form, not to mention playing at home.
For the Eagles, this marks a weird season that saw Nick Foles take over for Carson Wentz once again, leading the team into the playoffs, pulling off a tough and slightly lucky road win in Chicago, but the team simply wasn’t as good as it was a year ago. The Super Bowl window is still open, but questions, especially at quarterback, will haunt their offseason. Just like Alshon Jeffery’s drops.
