DeMar DeRozan is in the middle of the media attention these days. The San Antonio Spurs guard is considered to be the part of the next big trade which could shake the league.
DeRozan was one of the best shooting guards in the league while he played for Toronto Raptors. Still, Masai Ujiri decided to take a risk and land Kawhi Leonard to Ontario, along with Danny Green, and that eventually worked for the Canadian franchise.
Bad Stint in San Antonio
Meanwhile, the Spurs and the DeRozan didn’t get along well, although some might believe otherwise. The team was eliminated in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs, and the player’s impact wasn’t as expected.
It is even worse this season, with the Spurs sitting at the 13th place in the West, with 6 wins and 12 losses. Now, that is something that didn’t happen for a long time, and it could cause radical changes within the organization from Texas. Already numerous rumors are pointing towards the reconstruction and pretty soon one.
At the moment, his stats are looking solid, 22.2 points, 5.3 boards, and 4.6 assists. However, his game is a bit one-dimensional and has numerous flaws. DeRozan is still avoiding to improve his three-point shooting and is relying upon mid-range jumpers.
Meanwhile, his defense is very poor, and the four-time All-Star is probably the biggest hole in San Antonio’s defensive scheme. With him on the court, they are recording -7.5 net rating, and the Spurs are one of the worst defenses in league with DD in the game.
Knicks Can’t Miss This Chance
DeRozan’s destinations are according to the experts probably on the East, and among them, the Orlando Magic and the New York Knicks stand above all other teams. He has a player option included for the next year, and in one pretty bad free agency, he could be the biggest star.
Now for Orlando, this is not important, as the Magic allegedly wants him either way. But for the Knicks, it is crucial. They are desperate for an All-Star on their roster, and can not afford to miss this chance and lose DeRozan. It is why many believe that Big Apple might be his next residence.
