Conor McGregor is back, and it is official. The Notorious will return to the UFC and the octagon on January 18 in Las Vegas. That is the latest news, issued by the UFC president Dana White.
UFC 246 With McGregor
According to White, his opponent will be Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, and this bout will be the headline for the UFC 246. Also, this fight will be a non-title contest in the welterweight division, which will be the third time for the Irishman to have a match in that category.
White also said that both sides signed an agreement and that they are ready to roll.
Since the infamous UFC 229 back in 2018, when McGregor lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov, this will be his first fight. His recent interviews and statements are suggesting that the former lightweight champion feels excellent and ready to battle.
McGregor is 21-4 in his career, and one of those fights came in welterweight once he lost to Nate Diaz. It is something that worries his fans at the moment. What is the next thing, is the ring rust, as he participated in just one MMA fight over the past three years. The spectacle with Floyd Mayweather could hardly be held for something similar to UFC.
In the meantime, he had numerous law problems due to his hot temper. Two sexual assault allegations, one attack on an older person, and smashing a phone of a fan all this is filled the media headlines.
Cerrone’s Final Round
Meanwhile, Cerrone is a veteran of this sport. His record in MMA is 36-13, while in the UFC alone is 26 wins and 13 losses. A walking legend a d a future Hall of Famer is looking for a chance for one more sensation. And if he manages to defeat Conor, that would no doubt be one of the biggest in the last decade. His latest fight was against Justin Gaethje, and he lost it by a KO.
Some are saying that this might be a warmup for McGregor, whose final intention is to meet with Kahbib once again. A rematch and revenge are his goals, but at the moment, the Russian is not willing to discuss that at all.
Anyway, we are ahead of a great spectacle. The Notorious is back.
