Cristiano Ronaldo About Titles, Not Scoring Records

When you put together a player who is by minority opinion the best in the world on a team filled with feeling of “We got screwed” and “Lets blow some steam until the season is over” with the added bonus of playing weak teams with weak defenses who are completely inferior in every manner imaginable – you get Cristiano Ronaldo’s crazy scoring run as the season comes to an end.

38 Goals. If you read the Marca, a pro Real Madrid Newspaper, Ronaldo’s at 39. Problem is – the Spanish FA makes that decision, and 38 it is. Tied with Hugo Sanchez and Telmo Zarra for most goals scored in a La Liga season. You can bet your house, car, wife and kids Ronaldo will be breaking that mark on Saturday at the Bernabeu against Almeria. He says he’s not obsessed with breaking records. Well, maybe he is, just a bit. No one has ever accused Ronaldo of not wanting to score or get his names in the headlines. If the season ends without a championship or Champions League title, the least he can get is a win over Lionel Messi in the scoring charts.

It all started with the laugher at Sevilla, which was one of the strangest matches I’ve seen all year. Usually, the away match against Sevilla is one of Real’s toughest games all year, losing there more than once. The team that won two consecutive UEFA cups not too long ago and seemed ready to become a permanent rival to Real and Barcelona for the league title crashed and burned this season. The players don’t seem to care anymore, and Cristiano Ronaldo, not one to make things easy on broken pieces of a team, scored four goals while attempting 11 shots at goal. Next Week? 11 attempts again, a hat trick, a 4-0 win against Getafe. This weekend? Villareal – an away match against the team ranked fourth. Nothing to play for the yellow submarine, and an easy 3-1 win for Real. Ronaldo? A brace while attempting only four shots at goal.

With Barcelona tanking the end of the season so they’ll be well rested for the Champions League final has made it possible for Real Madrid to finish only one point behind them when it’s all said and done. Not a very telling photo finish of the real season the unfolded – A season that saw the knockout punch being delivered way back in November. But hey, there’s pride and scoring titles to play for. Ronaldo has already broken the scoring record for a Real Madrid player in all competitions this season – 51 goals in 53 matches. He has 84 in 88 since becoming the most expensive footballer in the world. He has only won one Spanish Cup, a minor, nearly irrelevant title no matter how much Real fans tried to sweeten the blow in the end of the season. For a player who won three league titles and one Champions League trophy during his final three seasons with United, that’s not nearly enough. For a club that’s considered and actually backed by numbers to be the most successful in the history of Spain and European Football, that’s nothing.

Despite the 38 goals, Lionel Messi still has the upper hand

Cristiano Ronaldo had an amazing season, maybe his best. It’s easier in the La Liga then the weekly grind of the Premier League. Yeah, he had one incredible year there, 2007-2008. He wouldn’t be scoring 30 goals a season there if he stayed, not for long. Lionel Messi, the best in the world, couldn’t have done it either. It’s just tougher up north. Maybe the quality of play isn’t comparable to Spain, but it is harder. Don’t believe anyone who tells you different.

For Ronaldo, titles are the main thing. He wants to be the greatest, be the best. And if not by titles, at least not yet, as the Empire from the east continues to dominate Real, with the help or without the help of referees and whoever else Jose Mourinho chooses to blame, than by individual achievements, unimportant as they may be for him, so he says.

  1. It is easy to see that you are a Barcelona fan. Why dont you give Ronaldo credit for what he has done. Goals are goals and thats what it matters. If messi was not able to score 38 goals this season well just get over it. Why dont you point out that Ronaldo played in different leagues in Europe while Messi only played for Barcelona? What is messi in other team besides Barcelona? What has he done in Argentina? At least Ronaldo played well in England and he is doing good in Spain. Can Messi handle that? Please, be more professional and if you are just going to give one side of the story, you mind as well keep it for your self. Real sport fans know who and what ronaldo has done.

  2. You’re not the first nor the last that will get on the “trash Ronaldo and make Messi the best” band wagon. It does not matter what Ronaldo does, how many records he breaks, how many trophys the team he plays with win; in your eyes and other people like you he will never do anything outstanding or creative. But if I had his millions and gift of playing I could give two shits of what anybody says, jealousy runs rampart and those like you that don’t have any creative style (as presented in this article of yours) will always be envee of his talent on and off the field.

  3. what the fuck kind of shit article is this? How can you say Ronaldo would not be scoring 30 goals a season in England? He scored 42 the year he won the champions league idiot. If he stayed he would only get better. I don’t understand how people still credit messi for eveything little think and overlook ronaldo. Messi has only ever played in Barcelona and ronaldo has played in three different leagues. That itself gives him and edge, and it should be greatly considered when comparing the two. Not saying that messi wouldn’t do well in another league, im sure he would, but we have not seen it yet. Ronaldo has already proven this. You have absolutely no backing to what your saying, this article is poorly written and you obviously haven’t done your research. You talk as if 38 goals is nothing to be praised for. If Madrid fails to win the big titles, that’s hardly ronaldo’s fault, especially when he scores a majority of Madrid’s goals. If it weren’t for him they probably wouldn’t even finish second in the league. If messi is in the lead, people bow at his feet. Ronaldo does it and morons like you tried to find excuses for his accomplishments in attempt to discredit everything he does. Such bullshit. Goals are goals, and the numbers speak for themselves. Whether people like it or not, Ronaldo is one of the best players in the world. But the point is, you cannot take away all he has done in madrid or in England, and the fact that he has already proven himself as the best of the best. He should not have to keep proving himself over and over, and even when he does as he has done this season and last, its still not enough for some people. It makes no sense, all messi has to do is tap in the ball from inside the box and people call him a genius. For madrid not to win important titles should not come at the expense of a hard working, deserving player.

  4. Hi is best than mesi he is everything to me i wish to see him in persen before my life is over

  5. What kind of a joke of an article is this? The author has to seriously get his brain checked. Be a little more professional and stop trying to use media to spread your bias barca propaganda. Rememeber this, Barca cheated there way to the champions league final and there is no disputing that. Get a reality check loser.

  6. This is typical of the media love fest with Barcelona. If Messi hit 38, we wouldn’t hear the end of it. This is one of the most putrid, pathetic articles I have had the misfortune of reading. It is cleat to me the media is so bias towards farca it makes me cringe. Cr7 set a record for goals scored in a single season and this article makes it seem like he’s worse than darren bent. I have scoured the internet to find one article that praised Ronaldo, and the only one i could find was Phil Ball’s weekly article on Espn. The majority of the media hates Ronaldo and Madrid and think they are the scum of the beautiful game. In reality, they need to take their rose-tinted specs and write a fair and unbiased article, but for the majority that seems to be a task that their incomptent and lazy minds seem unwilling to do.

  7. All u ppl do z try 2 bring Ronaldo down, when messi hit 52 u jokd around and said”he’s not human” but when Ronaldo hits 51 its always the excusez u tend 2 make and by the way u talkn sh?t Messi sucks in Argentina, he hsnt plaed else whr iethr than barca and honestly if i could choose between Messi and Ronaldo, i wldnt pick the little magician id take the tall Goal scoring machine. Last year Messi shouldn’t have won the fifa world player of the year but it was because the media likes him. Diego forlan shouldv won it because he had a wonderful World cup and 2 end up nt evn getin a nomination or Diego Milito bt he’l never get game time aslng thers a Messi arnd. And evn ths year Messi z gn2 win the fifa player of the year and every year they should just give it 2 hm and champions league 2 Barca bcz ietha way the ref wil gv thm decisions, and u cldnt evn praise Cristiano 4 scorin 51 goals and 4 gtn 9 goals in 3 games something Messi has never done or wil eva do. And Remembr Cr7 and Messi play in the same league and don’t act lyk he also doesn’t play weak teams.

When you put together a player who is by minority opinion the best in the world on a team filled with feeling of “We got screwed” and “Lets blow some steam until the season is over” with the added bonus of playing weak teams with weak defenses who are completely inferior in every manner imaginable – you get Cristiano Ronaldo’s crazy scoring run as the season comes to an end.” wow thats all i got to say about that , dude your not even worth commenting about .

  9. this man called cr7 is a living legend in history of futball he prove himself in 3 different league just getting better in each league he proceed 2. Let look @z.zidian and ronaldo delima they prove themself in different kind of league.

  10. Cr7 is d best player. U knw y? Cuz is a winger who has transformed into a goal scoring machine. Why dont u ask messi to play in england as a winger and if he would get close to being nominated as pfa player of d yr let alone world foot baller. I av nothing against messi cuz i tink he is a gr8 player but cr7 has proven he can survive in 3 dif leagues so he is the gr8er play.

  11. some people re very stupid n idiotic 2 say dat lionel messi shud prove himself in another league in europe. Let me ask those idiots 2 tell me hw many leagues did pele and maradona played in b4 they bcom football legends? If cr7 like let him go 2 india, china, brazil or africa n prove himself without wining major titles bcos fools like ronaldo and his fans wil tell me dat mourinho went 2 different places bcos he doesnt like wining titles. Hw many goals has he scored for portugal? Y cant he prove his talents for portugal? A soldier only prove himself in a war without wining a single battle. Cr7 is a caword if he thinks so…….hahahahahahaha.

  12. @ benkason, you seem to forget that messi had the opportunity to prove himself in the Copa America this year and what happened they didn’t even reach the knock out stage! Messi is so overrated and just because Ronaldo is “arrogant” people seem to think he is not a good player! He has avhieved way more than messi and he even broke the all time la liga record, something messi has never done even though he has been in la liga all his career and ronalso gets here and on his 2nd season he breaks the record and sets a new one, but what does he get, bad articles from the media and stating things like “his goals didn’t make real madrid win any major title” its not his fault that real couldn’t win many titles its the whole of madrids faults. And by the way millions of people think ronaldo is the best in the world exept for spanish people, and I’m guessing you will say only women like him and that makes you prejudice because not all women watch football for good looking footbalers!
