The nine MLB players making over 20 million dollars in 2011, most of them without producing the expected numbers. And yes, three of them are from the New York Yankees.

Miguel Cabrera, Detroit Tigers – 20 Million Dollars

Miguel Cabrera will play in his sixth All-Star game pretty soon, but the problems outside of the Baseball grounds have put a darker tone on his season, despite his .311 average with 18 home runs and 59 RBI’s. Most of his numbers are slightly lower than last year, understandably, and less distractions off the field might mean securing the top spot in the AL Central for the Tigers.

Roy Halladay, Philadelphia Phillies – 20 Million Dollars

The starter for the NL All-Stars in the up and coming game, Roy Halladay is having a wonderful second year in Philly, with a 11-3 record (second in the NL) and 2.45 ERA(4th). He has already pitches six complete games, more than anyone else in the league, and there’s a good chance he’ll break his personal record of 9 in a season in the next few months.

Ryan Howard, Philadelphia Phillies – 20 Million Dollars

The 3 time All-Star and 2006 NL MVP is having another productive season at the plate – 18 home runs (6th in the NL) and 72 RBIs (2nd), while batting a below average .257. There’s a good chance he’ll have his fifth consecutive 30 homers, 100 RBI season.

Todd Helton, Colorado Rockies – 20,275,000 Dollars

Todd Helton played his 2000th game just over a week ago, the fifth most senior active player to spend his entire career with one club. In his 15th season with the Rockies, 37 year old Helton is hitting .321 with 10 home runs and 41 RBIs. According to him, he’ll be retired by the end of 2013. He’ll also be making a lot less money in the next two years, pretty well deserved due to his falling production.

Joe Mauer, Minnesota Twins – 23 Million Dollars

Mauer has missed nearly two months of Baseball this season, returning in June. The 2009 AL MVP’s return might galvanize the Twins into making a summer push in the AL Central race after trailing behind the Indians and Tigers so far this season. Mauer has yet to hit a home run this year after 31 games, averaging one in just over 10 games during his career.

Mark Teixeira, New York Yankees – 23,125,000 Dollars

Tex, as usual since joining the Yankees, is the teams best hitter – 25 home runs (2nd in the AL) and 65 RBIs (4th in the AL) although it comes along with a career low .244 batting average. He became the 131st Major Leaguer to hit 300 home runs on June 30.

CC Sabathia, New York Yankees – 24,285,714 Dollars

The highest paid pitcher in Baseball is the only one in the Majors with 13 wins so far but despite his 13-4 record and 2.72 ERA isn’t in the AL All-Star selection. Sabathia has led the AL in wins the last couple of seasons with a combined record of 40-15.

Vernon Wells, Los Angeles Angels – 26,642,857 Dollars

Somehow, Vernon Wells is making 21 million dollars from the Angels and 5 more from the Blue Jays but is doing terribly. He has missed about a month of Baseball and is hitting .222 with 13 homers and 34 RBIs. And his form has been improving lately. The Angles are neck and neck with the Rangers for the AL West so far, but Wells’ trade hasn’t really helped them regain their dominance in a division they have owned almost exclusively since 2004.

Alex Rodriguez, New York Yankees – 32 Million Dollars

After his knee surgery which went pretty well, Alex Rodriguez will be out for about a month. With his numbers on 13 home runs and 52 RBIs so far this season, this will probably be the first season in which Rodriguez doesn’t finish with a 30-100 stat line since 1997. Clean or not, when that kind of thing happens, when the injuries are coming more and more often, one of the greatest players of all time and one of the more hated in recent times is reaching the end of his career.
