I know it’s only Saturday, but Hoffenheim’s Sejad Salihovic’s fantastic goal with a booming free kick shot against German champions Dortmund yesterday was so good I really doubt it’ll be bested today in any of the leagues, even in the Super Cup Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid.
The Bosnian free kick specialist gave Hoffenheim an early lead which they held on to for the rest of the match, winning for the first time this season after a defeat to Hannover last week. For Dortmund, it was an uncharacteristically weak performance, mostly due to Mario Götze struggling to make an impact. Klopp suggested that fatigue from the mid-week international friendlies (so unnecessary) was the cause for his performance.
Someone might tell him that when you rely so much on a 19 year old, despite his immense talent and proven ability (six goals and 15 assists last season), you’re bound to have ups and downs like on Saturday.
