Lionel Messi Above Everyone Else (Barcelona vs Real Madrid)

With so many stars, the little Argentinian was again the best man on the pitch. Cesc Fabregas might have finally gotten his debut for Barcelona, but it was, like so many nights tend to be at the Nou Camp, like so many Barcelona vs Real Madrid Clasicos, Lionel Messi’s show, his night.

Before we get to the usual part when I say he’s the best in the world, lets try and get in the head of Marcelo as an example of a very talented but short fused, dumb and frustrated player. Real Madrid and Jose Mourinho were prepping all pre season for this Super Cup. Playing with his best players, changing the style, Real were ready to finally take over that castle on top of the mountain, aka Barcelona.

To have that shattered in four days, with Barcelona missing more players, with Barcelona behind in pre season training and preparation, with Barcelona far from their best, is simply frustrating. To do so many things well, at home and away, and have Lionel Messi once again, with those bursts of out-of-this-world inspiration along with Andres Iniesta (a wonderful match), thwart those dreams and hopes, is frustrating. And after one game without having a man sent off, Marcelo had to be the stupid man to chop down Cesc Fabregas with clear intent of hurting him and add another Real Madrid red card(s) and another bench clearing fight.

And we’re only in August. Only the Super Cup. The hate, the feuding, the rivalry, it’s hot the Mediterranean summer. And these games didn’t matter that much, in the big scheme of things. The quality of football was good, not great. The second half was more about diving, fouls, hitting and all those things that shouldn’t be in the main focus of things.

Real Madrid’s new style is making things difficult for Barcelona, but their still not quite there. With Xavi back in the lineup, and with Fabregas getting the hang of things, there’s still no comparing between the two midfields and their ability to dominate the pace, the possession, and create game changing plays. Speaking of game changers…

Cristiano Ronaldo was good. Scored a goal. He failed. Failed to create chances in the second half. Failed to make the right decisions in the second half when Real had more and more chances to embarrass and upset Barcelona. Messi? He seemed to disappear for about 20 minutes in the second half. But then came the equalizer, and Cesc came in. Barcelona had the wake up call they needed. Messi made sure the Super Cup remained at the Nou Camp.

The best player in the world is ready for a new season. Lets hope it doesn’t start with a players strike.

  1. Pepe is quite amazing. He can do awful fouls on simple actions. For example :
    – When he tackles Iniesta and manage to get the ball. when he goes to shoot the ball as far as possible, he still manage to hit iniesta. No one notice it since we’re all focused on the ball.
    – During a Corner kick. Busquets push him (lol… for a tough guy, he was easy to push) and he ends up hitting Pique on the face.

But in a way, all that is both barcelona & the refree fault.
Barcelona knows how aggressive Madrid is and they exagerate every contact and roll on the floor every time.
Thus pissing off MAdrid so they will play even harder and barcelona will dive even more.
The refree should have sent off players from the start and clearly showed all player who is the boss. We might think they would have learned from last season Barca-Madrid.

And let’s be honest, Madrid is far from being a tough team compared to :
    – Liverpool (Carragher, Agger, Gerrard, Carroll, …)
    – United ( Vidic, fabio, Carrick, scholes, …
    – City ( Kompagny, DeJong, Richards, …)
    – and most, if not all, premiere league team.

Barca would never dive as much against those premiere league team.
Btw, what Morinho did at the end just is not class. Coming from a coach, this should not be autorized. Hoped he’ll have to answer for that in front of Madrid president and the Liga federation.

Now about the game. Messi played like 20 min, but each time he was brilliant. I might dislike spanish football, but I have to say that Messi is on a different level. No one comes even close to him. (BTW, he should have earn at least a yellow card)

And to finish my rant, red card on barcelona “staff”. Throwing 2 balls on the field when Madrid wanted to play a throw in fast. That’s cheap.

  2. It looks like the agrrssion, hatred and violence between the two teams, in short, everything not football related, will be at even a higher level this season.

  3. Messi = MAJESTERIALLY LUCKY

Lets be honest, this writer seriously has to be under Messi’s balls right now tweazing his hairs and giving em the old spit shine. Lionel Messi is the most Over-Rated player in futbol right now; and dont misunderstand that, I am not saying he sucks, nor am i saying hes average, Messi is a great player one of the world’s best but he isn’t better than Ronaldo, never was and never will be, in that sense yea absolutley over-rated, if you wana argue that or attempt to compare stop your already insulting futbol just thinking about it. Haters are the only one who can’t or i should say “won’t” allow themselves to realize Ronaldo is just a better athelete and more complete player than Leo. PS the best players in the world in any sport are always the most hated, at least until the retire. Can’t say CR isn’t winning that vote. Playing for a better team doesn’t make you a better player than someone else on another team. Barca just has something Madrid doesn’t chemistry, rightly so they have been playing together alot longer and you could add the significance of FIFA and UEFA FAVORITISIM, but i’ll digress. Madrid however is starting to gain that chemisty very quickly, in my opnion they were the better team and deserved the super-cup more so than Barca. Casillas and Benzema deserve MVP status for thier play from Barca. The sonner Mourinho realizes Casillas, Khediera, Benzema and Di-Maria should never touch the field unless RM is up by a significant margin, the sonner Madrid puts an end to Barca’s over-rated success!

  4. I do not agree. I believe Messi is far stronger than any football player in activity.
They are both incredible athelete. They are both extremely fast. CR7 is probably a faster player without the ball but Messi is faster with.
Messi is much stronger than you think. He might be small but he doesn’t fall easily and has outstanding balance. They are both incredible free kick takers.
Granted, CR7 has good jumping/heading abilities and that’s why CR7 is a very versatile player and can play pretty much at any attacking position, he can do everything.
Messi is a specialized player but he’s a beast at what he does.
And FYI, Messi is involved on all 3 goals.

In a way, it’s the same debate as who is stronger between maradona and pele. Pele, just like CR7, can do everything. And Messi is simply a younger version of Maradona.

You think Casillas & Benzema should be subs at best ?

  5. Did someone just try to make a case for CR7 being a better all-around footballer than Lionel Messi? Did that person also go on to say that anyone who disputes this would be disgracing football? Well here comes my attempt at desicrating the game. Something “The Truth” avoided. Stats: (club only, because let’s face it they are both equally dismall for country.) Goals: CR7: 210 in 414 appearences. .507 goals/app average. Messi 183 goals in 271 app. .675 goals/app average. Career assists: Ronaldo: 45 Messi: 75. Total trophies Messi: 11 Ronaldo: 9. World player of the year Messi-2, Ronaldo-1. Clutch goals: I’ll let the readers figure this one out, Hint: hat tricks against Levante don’t count lol. Sorry for disgracing the game like that, I forgot that how athletic you are always equals how talented you are (see J.D. Drew of Major League Baseball for looking the part). Also the “most hated” thing kind of falls by the wayside as well. People love Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. They Love Albert Pujols. To at least throw you a bone, Ronaldo does trump Messi in the key catergory of step-overs per game, so there is always that.

  6. Cr7 is beta dan mesi in d air becos he is taller.he may be beta dan mesi in takin freekicks.if freekicks were to be the only thing in footbal juninho would have been d greatest player of all time.so anyhow u want to get d goal. get it! It musnt b a frekick goal.mesi still d best in d world
