Dwight Phillips won his fourth Gold Medal in the World’s with an 8.45, the season’s best for him. At 34 years old, the man who has dominated the event for nearly a decade now, is probably going to make London 2012 his farewell from the event, hopefully with gold. Mitchell Watt of Australia finished second with an 8.33.

A huge surprise in the Shot Put event, as the 21 year old German David Storl got the lead from the second round, but had to throw a 21.78 in order to grab gold and leave Canadian Dylan Armstrong to grab silver with 21.64, a result he got in the 4th round, which put him ahead for a few moments.

This one meant so much to her, and she almost lost it. After losing to Jeter in the 100’s, Veronica Campbell-Brown led from the start in the 200 meters, winning while Jeter hit a wall and faded away 40 meters to go and the slender Allyson Felix, more of a 400 specialist, woke up a bit too late. VCB won with a time of 22.22, her second gold medal in this event. She’s also won the 200 meters twice in the Olympics.

The best race and event of the day – Jamaica and South Africa were very close to upset the Americans in a race they haven’t lost in the World Championships since 1991. LaShawnn Merritt’s fantastic finish gave the Americans the gold in the 4×400 relay. A very tactical race, all the top three nations finished with worse times than they had in the heats.

Vivian Cheruiyot  from Kenya won the 5000 meters women’s finals, making it a double in the 10,000 and 5000, finishing in a time of 14:55.36, as Kenya took Gold and Silver.

Maria Abakhumova of Russia set a fantastic result in the Women’s Javelin, nearly reaching the world record with a 71.99 meters result, 29 centimeters shy of the World record.
