Gold Medal Winners on Day Eight of the 2011 IAAF World Championships

Usain Bolt ran a fantastic 19.40 to win his first gold medal of the 2011 Championships and his fourth ever, winning the 200 meter race, putting the disqualification in the 100 meter race behind him. Walter Dix got Silver with 19.70 while the French Christophe Lemaitre won the Bronze with 19.80, a new French record.

The 29 year old Russian High Jumper, Anna Chicherova, won her first gold medal in the World’s after finishing second in 2007 and 2009. She won the contest with a 2.03, same as the second place result of Blanka Vlasic, but like in the Men’s competition (won by Jesse Williams), the smoother way, without dropping the bar once, lead to the gold.

Another young German with a gold medal – Matthias de Zordo won the competition with his first throw, setting a seasonal best for him with 86.27. His personal best is just under 88, but the field was pretty weak today, and he won with a result that almost 150 centimeters better than the Silver Medalist’s, Andres Thorkildsen of Norway, with 84.78.

The Olympic Champions from Beijing, Asbel Kiprop, won his first World Championship gold medal with 3:35.69, well slower than his personal best, but enough to get Kenya another gold medal in the middle-long distances. The silver medalist was also a Kenyan, Silas Kiplagat, finishing narrowly behind with a 3:35.92.

The Australian Sally Pearson, who won Silver in Beijing but finished a disappointing fifth in Berlin two years ago, got her first gold Medal in this event with a fantastic 12.28, the 4th best result in the history of the event.

The United States took the Men’s and Women’s double in the 4×400 meter relay, with the team of Allyson Felix, Jessica Beard, Sanya Richard-Ross and Francena McCorory  brought gold with a 3:18.09, beating the Jamaican ladies, setting the result of the year.
