The USA won more gold medals (12) and overall (25) in the 2011 IAAF World Championships in Daegu, with the Women bringing home 7 of those first place finishes. Russia were second with 9, also mostly thanks to the ladies.

Number 2 – Russia – 9 Gold Medals

Men – Valeriy Borchin in the 20 Kilometers Walk with 1:19:56. Sergey Bakulin in the 50 Kilometers Walk with 3:41:24.

Women – Mariya Savinova in the 800 meters with 1:55.87. Yuliya Zarudneva Zaripova in the 3000 steeplechase with 9:07.03. Olga Kaniskina in the 20 Kilometers Walk with 1:29:42. Anna Chicherova in the High Jump with 2.03. Mariya Abakomova in the Javelin Throw with 71.99, a new Championship record. Tatyana Lysenko in the Hammer Throw with 77.13. Tatyana Chernova in the Heptathlon with 6880 points.

Number 3 – Kenya – 7 Gold Medals

Men – David Rudisha in the 800 meters with 1:43.91. Asbel Kiprop in the 1500 with 3:35.69. Abel Kirui in the Marathon with 2:07:38. Ezekiel Kemboi in the 3000 steeplechase with 8:14.85.

Women – Vivian Cheruiyot in the 5000 meters with 14:55.36 and also in the 10000 with 30:48.98. Edna Kiplagat in the Marathon with 2:28:43.

Number 4 – Jamaica – 4 Gold Medals

Men – Yohan Blake in the 100 meters with 9.92. Usain Bolt in the 200 with 19.40. Nesta Carter, Michael Frater, Yohan Blake and Usain Bolt in the 4×100 relay with 37.04, a new world record.

Women – Veronica Campbell-Brown in the 200 meters with 22.22.

Number 5 – Germany – 3 Gold Medals

Men – David Strol in the Shot Put with 21.78. Robert Harting in the Discus Throw with 68.97. Matthias de Zordo in the Javelin Throw with 86.27.

Number 6 – Great Britian – 2 Gold Medals
