The Usual Cristiano Ronaldo Hat Trick (Real Madrid vs Rayo)

After two matches in which Real Madrid failed to find the net, earning only 1 point from a possible six, their return to the Santiago Bernabeu, an early Rayo Vallecano goal to infuriate them and the almost trivial Cristiano Ronaldo goal scoring ability led Jose Mourinho’s side to their second six goal performance of the season, beating Rayo 6-2, ending talks of any crisis.

The first minute Michu goal did take the Bernabeu fans by surprise, as expected, but that only made Real Madrid angry. It took them nearly the entire half to find the net, but the moment Cristiano Ronaldo finally beat Dani Gimenez in another one on one chance, you knew it was over. Gonzalo Higuain scored at the best moment possible, just before the half time whistle, to make it 2-1.

Substitutions didn’t disrupt Real Madrid’s attacking game, as Cristiano Ronaldo won two penalty kicks to complete his hat trick while Karim Benzema scored after coming in for Higuain and youngster Raphael Varane scored his first for Real Madrid. Varane, while scoring, didn’t impress on defense.

In fact, Real Madrid as a whole didn’t impress with their defending. Iker Casillas made a very uncharacteristic mistake and the set piece coverage could be better. Still, any talks of crisis, and the growing pressure on Mourinho and the club in light of recent results and the usual excuses and behavior can be averted, or maybe even oblivirated. A visit to Espanyol next week will be a much sterner test to see how Real Madrid deal with tougher opposition.

Cristiano Ronaldo, five La Liga matches into 2011-2012, has already scored 7 goals. While winning the La Liga and the Champions League is at the top of his priorities, like everyone else in Real Madrid, he isn’t planning on losing his scoring title to a Barcelona player (Messi, who else) this season.
