Our first change at the top of the rankings this season, despite Oklahoma winning their Big 12 showdown against Missouri. LSU had another impressive win, over West Virginia, in Morgantown, beating the ranked Mountaineers 47-21. The biggest movers this week were Clemson after a big win over Florida State who keep sinking like stones, while USC dropped out of the rankings thanks to Arizona State.

1. LSU Tigers, 4-0 (42 First place votes) – The Tigers took over first place for the first time since their title winning season in 2007 after a very impressive win over West Virginia in Morgantown, 47-21, despite Geno Smith (WVU) throwing for 463 yards.

2. Oklahoma Sooners, 3-0 (12) – The number one team did win, beating the Missouri Tigers 38-28, but still dropped a place with a very impressive day from Landry Jones (448 yards, 3 TD).

3. Alabama Crimson Tide, 4-0 (5) – The first team that didn’t change their rankings, Alabama also beat a ranked team, fellow SEC rivals Arkansas, 38-14, with tailback Trent Richardson running for 126 yards and catching for 85.

4. Boise State Broncos, 3-0 (1) – Kellen Moore threw 4 TD passes as the Broncos beat Tulsa 41-21.

5. Oklahoma State Cowboys, 4-0 – A huge third quarter at College Station bumped the Cowboys up two spots. They beat Texas A&M, previously the 8th ranked team, 30-29 despite entering the second half behind 20-3. Brandon Weeden threw for 438 yards and 2 TD.

6. Stanford Cardinal, 3-0 – Didn’t play this week, dropping one spot.

7. Wisconsin Badgers, 4-0 – The Badgers did play, and did win, beating South Dakota 59-10, and still dropped a spot.

8. Nebraska Cornhuskers, 4-0 – A 38-14 win in Wyoming moved Nebraska up one place with a huge day on the ground as Rex Burkhead ran for 170 yards and two touchdowns.

9. Oregon Ducks, 3-1 – Another team on a short rise, advancing one spot after a 56-31 in Arizona over the Wildcats. LaMichael James ran for 288 yards and 2 touchdowns.

10. South Carolina Gamecocks, 4-0 – Back to perfection, for the meantime. Steve Spurrier’s team provided some intense defense against Vanderbilt, winning the SEC showdown 21-3 and moving up two spots.

11. Virginia Tech Hokies, 4-0 – Another school moving up two places. Tech beat Marshall in West Virginia 30-10 to remain undefeated.

12. Florida Gators, 4-0 – A big night on the ground from Jeff Demps paved the way for an impressive 48-10 win in Kentucky, moving Florida up three spots.

13. Clemson Tigers, 4-0 – A week after beating the national champions, Clemson bursted the Florida State bubble, handing the Seminoles their second straight defeat, beating them 35-30, moving the Tigers up 8 spots.

14. Texas A&M, 2-1 – A heartbreaking loss at home to Oklahoma State 29-30 moved them down six spots.

15. Baylor Bears, 3-0 – Robert Griffin III threw five touchdown passes as Baylor ripped through Rice 56-31, moving them up two spots.

16. South Florida Bulls, 4-0 – SFU remains undefeated with a 52-24 win over UTEP, moving them up two spots. Quarterback B.J. Daniels ran for a touchdown and threw for two more.

17. Texas Longhorns, 3-0 – Didn’t play but still managed a two spot elevation in the rankings. Crazy, huh?

18. Arkansas Razorbacks, 3-1 – A 14-38 loss against the Tide dropped the Hogs four spots.

19. Michigan Wolverines, 4-0 – The Denard Robinson running show kept on going as Michigan beat San Diego State 28-7, with Robinson rushing for 200 yards and three touchdowns.

20. TCU Horned Frogs, 3-1 – A comfortable 55-13 win over Portland State kept TCU at 20th.

21. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, 4-0 – A 35-28 win over North Carolina moved the Yellow Jackets up four spots.

22. West Virginia Mountaineers, 3-1 – A 21-47 drubbing at home against the new no.1 team, LSU Tigers, dropped West Virgina down 5 spots.

23. Florida State Seminoles, 2-2 – National title aspirations? The ACC doesn’t look very easy as well after a second straight loss, this time at Clemson, falling 12 spots.

24. Illinois Fighting Illini, 4-0 – A close call against Western Michigan 23-20 didn’t move Illinois anywhere.

25. Arizona State Sun Devils, 3-1 – Wins over USC always help you in the rankings, even when they’re not that great. Cameron Marshall ran for 141 yards and three touchdowns, leading Arizona State to 43-22 win over the Trojans.
