Tottenham Beat Kazan, Udinese Stop Atletico in Europa League Night

Another busy night in the Europe League, with two 5-0 wins by Schalke and Maccabi Haifa in the same group, Tottenham beating Rubin Kazan with a great Pavlyuchenko goal and Udinese beating Atletico Madrid 2-0.

Group A

Tottenham took control of the group (7 points), beating Rubin Kazan 1-0 at home from a fantastic Roman Pavlyuchenko free kick. PAOK beat Shamrock Rovers unconvincgly 2-1, with goals from Costin Lazar and Vieriniha.

Group B

Very tight and all draws. Standard Liege drew at home 0-0 with Vorskla, while FC Copenhagen finished in a 2-2 draw in Germany against Hannover – Christian Pander and Sergio Pinto scored for the hosts, Dame N’Doye and a late Cesar Santin equalizer for the Danes.

Group C

PSV Eindhoven remain perfect with a 1-0 win in Israel over Hapoel Tel Aviv – Georginio Wijnaldum scored the only goal as the Israeli club are still with 0 points. Legia Warsaw won in Romania against Rapid Bucuresti 1-0 through Miroslav Radovic.

Group D

Sporting are on top of the group with nine points, beating FC Vaslui from Romania (bad day for Romanian clubs) 2-0, goals from Evaldo and the wonderful Matias Fernandez. FC Zurich held Lazio to a 1-1 draw, goals from Giusseppe Sculli for the Italian and Adrian Nikci for Zurich. All three clubs have 2 points so far.

Group E

Stoke City had an easy time at home against Maccabi Tel Aviv from Israel, winning 3-0 with goals from Kenwyne Jones, Cameron Jerome and Rory Delap understudy Ryan Shotton, bringing them to 7 points. Dynamo Kiev are now second after a very late goal from Denys Harmas, beating Besiktas 1-0.

Group F

Athletic Bilbao came back from two goals down (Roman Wallner and Leonardo) at home against Red Bull Salzburg with two penalties from Fernando Llorente, staying on top of the group with 7 points. PSG ended their visit to Slovan Bratislava in a 0-0 draw.

Group G

Metalist Kharkiv were a man down and a goal down against Malmo (Jiloan Hamad), but managed a huge 4-1 away win with goals from Jonathan Cristaldo, Fininho, Edmar and Marko Devich. Alkmaar (Pontus Wernbloom and an own goal) drew at home with Austria Wien 2-2. Nacer Barazite and Alexander Grunwald scored for the visitors.

Group H

Club Brugge share the top of the group with Birmingham, losing to the English side 2-1 at home. Joseph Akpala scored for the Belgians, David Murphy and a goal ten minutes into injury time from Chris Wood won it for the Brummies. Maribor, through Agim Ibraimi, held Braga to a 1-1 draw, with Elderson scoring for Braga.

Group I

Udinese needed two very late goals (88th and injury time) from Floro Flores and Mehdi Benatia to beat Atletico Madrid in the highest profile clash of the week, moving to the top of the group. Rennes and Celtic ended their match in a 1-1 draw.

Group J

Ten goals from two teams – Schalke remained on top (7 points) with a 5-0 thrashing of AEK Larnaca in Cyprus. Huntelaar scored twice, Lewis Holtby, Benedikt Howedes and Julian Draxler finished the work. Maccabi Haifa are second with six points, beating Steaua Bucuresti 5-0 with goals from Wiyam Amashe (x2), Yaniv Katan, Taleb Twatiha and Idan Vered.

Group K

More Israel connections with a Polish twist, as Dudu Biton scored for Wisla in their 1-0 home win over Fulham. In Denmark, Odense lost to Twente 4-1 with goals from Luuk De Jong, Marc Janko (x2) and Willem Janssen. Twente lead the group with 7 points.

Group L

Anderlecht remain perfect after beating Sturm Graz 2-0 with goals from Guillaume Gillet and Matias Suarez. Lokomotiv Moscow beat AEK Athens 3-1 through Dmitri Sychev and Felipe Caicedo.
