An incredible Ryan Taylor goal was the best of Newcastle this Saturday at St. James’ Park, with Newcastle extending their unbeaten start to the season, beating Everton 2-1 and climbing to the second place in the English Premier League, reminding us of maybe those happy late 90’s days.
It’s hard to find anyone not surprised by this start. With Manchester United, Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool all behind them right now, Alan Pardew’s side keeps winning, or at least not losing, making them the most pleasant surprise in England this season.
No big names, but sometimes, things just click. Demba Ba is showing what he can do when he’s not relegation bound (8 goals in the league this season) but even more impressively, the Newcastle defense, yes, their defense, with a usually error-prone Fabio Coloccini still there, is tied as the best in the Premier League along with Manchester City.
Maybe it’s the silence from the front office, the security it shows on Alan Pardew who’s doing a very good job despite his low populairty when he first came on last year for Chris Hughton. Today against Everton wasn’t the best example, but David Moyes side struggle so hard on the offensive end this season, every goal feeling like child birth, so one away goal was more than expected to tell you the truth.
And Ryan Taylor submitted his early candidate for goal of the year. A right back who hasn’t lived up to the potential and the price tag, but now and then does release a missile from his feet. Today was probably the best he’s ever had in his career.
