Despite England not being really part of the world’s elite football nations, at least when speaking about the national side, you would expect that in 10 meeting with Sweden since 1979, they would have gotten one win.

England and Sweden meet a week from now at Wembley for a friendly while other nations play for Euro qualifications. England made it out of their group as winners, Sweden also qualified, putting behind their failure to make it into the 2010 World Cup, finishing as the best second placed side among the European nations.

It’s been 43 years since England last beat Sweden, way back in 1968, at Wembley. Booby Charlton, Roger Hunt and Martin Peters scored for the World Champions. Since then? Seven draws (the last four matches have been draws) and three Sweden wins. The two have met in the group stage in the 2006 World Cup, with Joe Cole scoring an incredible goal (2-2) draw and also in the 2002 World Cup, a 1-1 draw.
