David Beckham’s time in the MLS is all but done, so it seems. A very successful 2011 season for him personally and for the Los Angeles Galaxy meant a happy ending to his US adventure, but it doesn’t mean that PSG, a club on the rise, with aspirations of joining Europe’s elite should sign the 36 year old international.
Antoine Kombouare may be the head coach in Paris, but there’s no doubt who the strong man is in the club – Leonardo, the Director of Football, who found himself a comfortable gig after his Milanese ventures. Seeing the money spent achieve “only” 30 points out of a possible 42 is adding pressure on him from the Middle Eastern ownership, which mounts heavily on Kombouare’s shoulders.
David Beckham adds pressure, expectations. The financial boom his presence still manages to generate despite being 8 years past his prime isn’t worth the illusion of making the team better. He still works hard, he still takes brilliant set pieces. But will he make PSG better? I think not. Kombouare might not keep his job even if PSG finish this season at first, for the first time since 1994. With David Beckham boosting expectations but not upgrading the team?
His third season at the Parisian club may well be his last.
One response to “PSG Shouldn’t Sign David Beckham”
I’m from Paris and a PSG fan.
You’re point of view is interesting but imo, the reality is much different.
For medias and maybe foreign ppl, yes Leonardo is the strong man. But for us, Kombouare must stay (as we prove at every game singing is name.) In the end, he’s the best man to represent our club and that’s why we all like him. If leonardo dismiss him now, that will be the most unpopular decision in PSG history.
It’s always Leonardo or Pastore for medias. But in reality it’s Kombouaré and Sakho.
I think Beckham would be a great asset for us. He has a huge experience and everyone could learn from him. But he won’t play much, he will be a sub at best (and we have a few good midfield). He could play more if he was still good as a right winger. And finaly, he probably won’t take many freekicks since Nene is the one in charge of that here, and he’s the best in ligue1.

—> It’s incredible in ligue1 because we have a lot of team of the same level. And there’s something true in France, most team plays their best against PSG at Paris. They all have huge motivation in playing in Paris. (and it’s not new, it was always like that.)
What we need is a winger because no one can sub in for Nene or Menez.
And i’ll end this comment by saying we’re playing Marseille this weekend. The game of the year. (In a way, it’s our own barca – real)
