How do you figure the worst clubs in Europe? Probably go to the worst league in the UEFA Co-efficient (San Marino), look at the worst team there and have your pick. But those clubs are amateurish at best. For clubs like Blackburn in the Premier League, despite their history and stature, things are much more embarrassing.
So after reviewing all the bottom feeders in the top 10 leagues in Europe, we’ve come up with the worst five. From Doxa Drama in Greece, who have scored only once since their court upheld promotion, Blackburn who don’t have problems with scoring, but have a problems with no fan support for their manager and, as you might have guessed, actually winning.
Doxa Drama F.C., Greece
Un-Success Rate – 1 point from 24 possible, 4.16%
Thanks to the corruption and scandals that delayed the beginning of the Greek Superleague by 2 months, Doxa Drama, a tiny club from the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace region, found itself among the giants of the top division. Needless to say, they are unprepared and ill equipped to produce anything respectable, having drawn once in eight matches played. More pathetic is their scoring record, which at the moment stand at 1-16.
SBV Excelsior, The Netherlands
Un-Success rate – 8 points from 51, 15.6%
A team that has been up and down between Eredivisie (top league) and the Eerste Divisie this past decade will probably make a return down below when the season is over. They have won only one match after 17, drawing five times. Their goal difference is an appalling (-32), having scored the least amount of goals this season (11) and conceded the most (43).
The tiny Rotterdam club, who average just over 3000 fans a match, got their only win back in October 29, and have conceded 12 goals in their last two defeats without scoring once.
FC Obolon Kyiv, Ukraine
Un-Success rate – 11 points from 60 possible, 18.3%
Another up and down between divisions club is Obolon Kyiv, a young team founded only in 1992. This is their third straight season in the Ukranian Premier League after finishing in respectable mid-table positions in their last two season.
This year, it’s been pretty terrible, winning only twice in 20 matches and drawing 5 more. They have scored only 10 goals so far, but the league is suffering from many clubs who can’t score – seven clubs, including the fifth ranked Kryvbas Kryvyi Rhi, average less than a goal a match.
U.S. Lecce, Italy
Un-Success Rate – 9 points from 48 possible, 18.7%
Eusebio Di Francesco lasted less than six months with the club before being replaced by Serse Cosmi on December 4. Since then? One draw and two losses, but at least the goals are coming. Lecce scored more than half their goals in the three match span, reaching 11, which isn’t very impressive. They narrowly avoided relegation last season, and probably won’t be able to this year, although Novara and Cesena aren’t that far away.
Blackburn Rovers, England
Un-Success rate – 11 points from 54 possible, 20.3%
Despite Ayegbeni Yakubu making a fantastic comeback season, this is a terrible season for Blackburn. Manager Steve Kean is a persona non-grata at Ewood Park, but the ownership (also under heavy fire), who hasn’t really been spending cash like they promised, is so far deaf to the fans’ requests. Blackburn have only won twice since the season began, and only once in the last two months. They have drawn against Liverpool in their most recent match, but that isn’t a rare accomplishment these days.
