Cristiano Ronaldo Scores Number 21 in Real Madrid Romp

Karim Benzema scored twice, reaching 10 league goals this season, standing out in Real Madrid’s impressive return to La Liga action with a 5-1 romp against Granada, with Sergio Ramos, Gonzalo Higuain and Cristiano Ronaldo joining the celebration.

For Ronaldo, it was his 21st goal of the season, coming a minute before time as the game was already sealed and done. There was the usual moment of uncertainty today for Real, who have won all their matches this season at the Bernabeu not involving a team from Barcelona. Still, they do give up goals at home while averaging over four goals per game, so it’s nothing to worry about.

Granada had their moment in the sun, as Moreno Mikel Rico equalized in the 22nd minute for the visitors who brought around 5000 fans with them, undoubtedly the noisier part of the crowd during the match. It didn’t take Real long to get the lead back through Sergio Ramos with a powerful header.

Granada had their chances in the first half, but the 3-1 from Higuain killed their hopes. Real Madrid toyed with them for the rest of the 43 minutes, Kaka and Hamit Altintop enjoying some minutes. Despite he’s far from his position as an AC Milan star, it’s weird for me to watch a player of Kaka’s caliber coming off the bench for 25-30 minutes a match.

With the win, Real widen their lead at the top of the La Liga to six points. With 43, they are ahead of Barcelona with 37, as Barca play Espanyol in the Barcelona derby on Sunday.
