Theirry Henry will be playing his final game in the very short second stint he’s had at Arsenal, facing AC Milan at the San Siro. Although this won’t necessarily be Henry’s final Arsenal match, there’s that usual melancholy feeling of a legend leaving a bit too soon.

But contracts are contracts, and Henry has to be in New York pretty soon, to play in his third MLS season, trying to follow up a rather successful 2011 season, in which Henry scored 14 goals and led the team to the MLS Cup Playoffs Semi Final.

Henry did play in only six matches for Arsenal since making his very short return (on loan), but made his mark immediately felt, scoring a late winner in the FA Cup to put the gunners over Leeds. Last weekend he scored another winner, maybe even more important, against Sunderland in a 2-1 league win.

I don’t know if it’s a praise to Henry, or a put down on Arsenal and especially Arsene Wenger, that Henry, at 34, managed to be so instrumental for a club with aspirations of more than contending for a Champions League spot. At least they should be. Robin van Persie can’t be the hero every time, and in the few instances he was on the pitch Henry actually looked like the second best player, when his addition should have been purely inspirational for the always ‘too young’ club.

There’s a lot of talk about Milan being able to end the Arsene Wenger era at Arsenal if they knockout the gunners in the Champions League after the two legs over the next two weeks. Henry has already had one legendary game at the San Siro, against the other Milan team, and another stroke of goal scoring magic from Arsenal’s greatest player ever might keep Wenger’s at the helm a bit longer than he deserves to be.
