Real Madrid have opened a 13 point lead at the top of the La Liga after their 4-0 win over Santander, and no matter what Barcelona do against Valencia and despite the fact that we still have 15 matches left to play, the chances of Jose Mourinho not winning his first major title with Real Madrid are slim to none.

Real Madrid are very close to having the perfect season. Their league record? Real have won 20 of their 23 matches, lost twice and drawn one. The last time they didn’t win a league game was back in the December Clasico. Since then? Eight consecutive league victories, with a 31-8 goal difference. They’ve won 61 out of 69 possible points, 88.4%. How does that compare with Barca’s 3 consecutive league titles?

Last season Barcelona finished with 96 points, four points ahead of Real in a race that wasn’t that close. An 84.2% success rate. In 2009-2010 Barcelona finished with 99 points, 3 ahead of Real Madrid. It was 86.8%, but Barcelona failed to win the Champions league that season. In 2008-2009, Guardiola’s first year as head coach, 87 points were enough against a Real team that finished 11 points behind.

Real’s season is statically incredible, unprecedented. And it follows to consecutive seasons of at least 90 points. Like Jose Mourinho said – In any other league we would have won the title last season. Feels like overstating the obvious, but that doesn’t make it any less true. The Clasico at the Nou Camp on April 22, if things keep going the way they have, will be a coronation game, or a just for pride match.

Real still have the Champions League to succeed in, and Mourinho has yet to beat Barcelona in the league, and I trully believe that he won’t be completely satisfied before he can get that chip off his shoulder, but winning a La Liga title with fantastic football, with Cristiano Ronaldo on pace to another record in goals (28 so far) is a nice compensation.

Another thing that has to be making Mourinho happy is teams calling out for his name. Inter fans, in a long and frustrating year, can’t wait to have him back, calling out Mourinho’s name during the 0-3 defeat against Bologna. Same thing has happened at Stamford Bridge, where Andre Villas-Boas keeps slipping into deeper mud with another disappointing result, with fans chanting to get him sacked and bringing back the ‘special one’.
