Roman Shirokov and Another “Miss of the Season”

Roman Shirokov joined a long line of players who have missed incredibly easy goals this season. Not exactly as terrible like the Deivid miss from last week, but his header to the post while the entire goal was waiting for him to score in the match between Zenit and CSKA Moscow.

The two league leaders finished their match in a 2-2 draw, which keeps Zenit six points ahead of CSKA and with a game in hand. Aleksandr Kerzhakov scored twice for Zenit, Alan Dzagoev and Ahmed Musa scored for CSKA, who have failed to beat Zenit for a third time this season.

Shirokov actually began his career as a CSKA player, but only got to play for the reserve team, CSKA-2. He traveled and played for six different teams before landing at St. Petersburg in 2008, winning the league title with the team in 2010 and the UEFA Cup in 2008. Zenit are still in the Champions League hunt, beating Benfica in the first leg of their knouckout stage encounter, with a visit to Lisbon up next.
