Nothing Better Than a Penguins – Flyers Brawl

The Pittsburgh Penguins were tired of constantly getting beaten by the Philadelphia Flyers, tired of getting pushed around on their home ice. The Flyers were about to move up to a 5-0 record at Consol Energy Center, leading 6-3 with a minute left in the game. Then Dan Bylsma threw in his checking line, and mayhem broke loose on the ice.

It had a lot to do with some earlier ugliness, when Brayden Schenn came from behind and crosschecked Sidney Crosby, falling into the ice. There’s plenty of bad blood and animosity between the two teams, which will probably result in one hell of a playoff series. Great hockey, and for those who like the scenes without the puck, some great fighting as well.

So how did the brawl begin? A faceoff following Jakub Voracek making it 6-3 Flyers led to Joe Vitale of the Penguins leveling Danny Briere. All 10 players on the ice were going at it shortly after, while Philadelphia coach Peter Laviolette was having a shouting match with Dan Bylsma outside of all the happening.

With the postseason a week away, the two teams still have one more regular season game to play against each other. Both teams were looking to hunt down the top spot in the East and the Atlantic Division, but are too far away from the New York Rangers with only 3 games remaining. I guess we’ll have to settle for these two going at it in the first round, which isn’t such a bad prospect.
