The German champions Wolfsburg opened their domestic season with a 4-1 away win over SV Wehen Wiesbaden, a third division club in Germany, in the first round of the DFB-Pokal, the German cup. Wolfsburg opened with all the big guns, including Edin Dzeko, Grafite, Misimovic and also the Algerian arrival from Marseille, Karim Ziani. Obafemi Martins, who was signed earlier today, did not play.

Wolfsburg didn’t not have any problems, and were 4-0 up after 56 minutes, with Dzeko, Grafite and a Misimovic brace doing the damage. Steffen Bohl scored for the home side in the 62nd minute. The best goal was Misimovic’s first, coming in the 41st minute, after a great double pass between Dzeko and Misimovic, playing their first competitive game under new manager, German Armin Veh, who won the league title with Stuttgart in 2007.
