Barcelona vs Real Madrid – All the Clasico Matches During the Guardiola & Mourinho Era

Barcelona probably made one of their best decisions in the club’s history when Pep Guardiola became their head coach in 2008. Jose Mourinho with Real Madrid? We’ll know in a few weeks, maybe even sooner. Guardiola has presided over 14 Clasico matches, losing only once, winning 9 of them. Mourinho has one only one of his ten Claisco encounters.

At the Camp Nou, in the league matches, the Real Madrid picture looks worse – They haven’t managed to score in their last three visits to Barcelona in the La Liga. The overall feeling that this is a must win game for both clubs, and if Real Madrid don’t lose, even draw, the title race is over. A loss, despite still having a one point lead, and they’ll stumble again.

Note – This was Barcelona’s first win over Real since November 2005, the famous show of Ronaldinho getting the standing ovation from the Real crowd at the Bernabeu. This was also Guardiola’s first Clasico.

Note – The biggest Barcelona win at the Bernabeu since the famous 5-0 in 1974. This was also the first time Barcelona won consecutive  Clasico matches since 2004.

Notes – Cristiano Ronaldo’s first clasico, missing quite a few chances in the match. Barcelona win three straight Clasicos for the first time since 1997-1998.

Notes – Raul’s final clasico. Barcelona win a fourth consecutive Clasico for the first time in the history of the rivalry.

November 29, 2010 – Barcelona 5 Real Madrid 0

Notes – Jose Mourinho’s first Clasico. Barcelona win 5-0 for the first time since 1994.

April 16, 2011 – Real Madrid 1 Barcelona 1

Goals – Lionel Messi (53, penalty); Cristiano Ronaldo (82, penalty).

Notes – In the midst of the Clasico month (Champions League, copa del rey final). Real Madrid manage not to lose against Barcelona in the league for the first time since May 2008. This is also the first draw in the Clasico since March 2007, when Messi scored his famous hat trick.

Notes – The first title for Mourinho and Ronaldo with Real Madrid, the club’s first cup since 1993. It was the first time the two teams met in the competition since the 1996-1997 season, and the first final between the two since 1990.

Notes – The first leg of their Spanish Cup Quarter Finals clash, and another example of how scoring first doesn’t help Real Madrid against Barcelona.

Notes – The Second leg, Barcelona qualify with a 4-3 aggregate score. Probably best 45 minutes against Barcelona during the Guardiola era.
