Justin Meram will probably lay off scissor kicks and other acrobatic goal attempts in the near future after missing the ball and hitting Hernan Pertuz in the throat instead during the match between the Columbus Crew and FC Dallas.
Columbus won the match despite Dallas taking the lead first (22nd minute) through Fabian Castillo; Justin Meram equalized in the 67th minute and Sebastian Miranda headed in the winner five minutes later with a header from outside the box.
With the win, Columbus remain at 8th in the Eastern conference with 11 points after nine games played; Dallas are sixth in the Western Conference with 12 points after 12 games, losing on their last three outings.
Meram stole the show not just with his goal, but with his extraordinary foul which was a result of showboating one wrong. He tried to go up for the scissor kick between two marking players, which is always a bad idea when you don’t have the room to perform. He caught Pertuz’ throat instead, which did look like quite a serious injury for a short while. Meram got the yellow card, with some referees probably going to a more harsher direction.
