Is Edin Dzeko returning to the Bundesliga in order to join Bayern Munich? It depends on who you ask, but adding a few things together might suggest that listening to the German media, reporting about the potential transfer, might be wiser than believing Dzeko’s agent, denying the entire story.

Edin Dzeko arrived on January 2011 from Wolfsburg for the free of €40 million after four extremely successful seasons with Wolfsburg, including winning the league title in 2009 and scoring 66 league goals in 111 matches. His first four months in England were anything but easy and successful.

Dzeko scored only twice in 15 matches for the club, easily branding him as a huge flop straight out of the gate. But Dzeko has more talent and ability than his numbers showed as City failed to topple the Manchester United regime. The new season, after rumors of Dzeko wanting out last summer, offered a new opportunity, a change.

It came quickly. Dzeko started the season firing with everything he had, including a four goal show in London against Tottenham. Manchester City were flying, and so was Dzeko, who scored a perfect hat-trick against Spurs on that day. His partnership with Aguero seemed to do them both a world of good. But Mancini, with the huge squad he has, had to try and change things. It almost cost him a title.

Edin Dzeko wasn’t a big part of City’s side in 2012, starting only 8 matches since the turn of the year, usually left on the bench for Sergio Aguero and Mario Balotelli or Carlos Tevez. Dzeko did have his moment on the last day of the season, scoring in City’s wild 3-2 win over QPR, securing the title. That isn’t enough to make Dzeko happy or confident about his place in the team.

The first rumors, and not for the first time, came from Italy and Juventus. The Italian champions had problems with scoring goals this season, and have been watching Dzeko for quite some time. Knowing his status at Eastlands isn’t rock solid, it seemed like a good chance to rock the boat and see what falls out.

Another big club, one that seems closer to actually getting Dzeko, is Bayern Munich. According to the circulating rumors, they have already agreed on Dzeko’s terms. Now all that’s left is getting Manchester City to go along with what should be a €20 million transfer, meaning they lose 20 themselves on what they paid Wolfsburg.

Bayern have been rather busy before and after the season has ended – Claudio Pizzaro is returning to the club from Werder Bremen; Dante from Monchengladbach; Xherdan Shaqiri from Basel. Now maybe Dzeko. But not if you ask Dzeko’s agent, Irfan Redzepagic.

But Edin plans to stay at Manchester City. I recently spoke with Marotta, but we talked about other things and we have not talked about Dzeko, because he wants to play in England at City. I think Edin won’t leave City.
