Nick Powell – Another ‘Wonderkid’ for Manchester United

Out of all the top English clubs at the moment, Manchester United seem to be the busiest. Not just in attempting to win back the Premier League title, but by securing a promising future, looking into signing 18 year old Nick Powell from Crewer Alexandra.

The 18 year old striker helped Crewe win the promotional playoff that earned them a place back in League one, scoring one of the goals in the 2-0 win over Cheltenham at Wembley. In his second season with the senior squad, Powell scored 16 goals in 45 appearances for the club he made his debut with back in August 2010.

Whoever the buyer may be, Powell is unlikely to return to the club on loan like many deals tend to lead to. Crewe want to bring in a replacement for Powell and clear space for more young talent. Manchester United, already highly interested in Chilean youngster Angelo Henriquez, are not the only team in the Premier League looking to sign Powell, but they seem to be the first in line to get the England U-17 and U-18 talent.

Nick is still with us, but I am sure talks are still ongoing with his agent and clubs. These things take time and rightly so because all parties have to be satisfied with any deal. I still envisage him leaving us this summer, but if it doesn’t happen then we would welcome him back for pre-season.

We’ll see what happens this week because obviously I would like to know as soon as possible if we are moving forward without him or not. One thing I can confirm is that he won’t be coming back here on loan. That wouldn’t be part of it because we want to bring in a replacement of our own and give our own players, such as Max Clayton, a chance. (Steve Davis, Manager)

With Shinji Kagawa already a done deal, it seems Alex Ferguson is keen on bolstering his squad with non-Euro talent so far, although he does have his sights on more Dortmund players, especially Robert Lewandowski, with Dortmund insisting that the Polish striker isn’t for sale.

PSG After Lavezzi and Thiago Silva

After missing out on the title but securing a return to the Champion League, Paris Saint-Germain are looking to complete the signing of Ezequiel Lavezzi for a sum rumored to be around €30 million after he played five season with Napoli, including in the Champions League last season.

Although listed as a forward, Lavezzi isn’t one to score many goals. He’s more about building up attacks and creating havoc in defenses with his powerful dribbles, netting 48 goals in 188 matches for the club.

There is talk of a €31 million price in the press, but this agreement is confidential and I can not reveal the true figures. All I can say is that the case will be concluded next week. (Aurelio de Laurentiis, team president).

Lavezzi, 27, has made 18 appearances for the Argentina national football team, scoring two goals. He arrived to Napoli from San Lorenzo in 2007 for the fee of €6.

Thiago Silva of AC Milan is even closer to complete the move from Italy to France, as reports in both countries suggest that the personal terms have been agreed upon and Silva will become the world’s most expensive defender, moving for a fee that hovers just under the €50 million mark.

Silva, considered by many to be one of the best centre backs in the world, has been with Milan since 2009, winning the Serie A title in 2011. He missed parts of this season due to injury, and has played in 118 matches for the Rossoneri. He’s also been capped 27 times for the Brazilian national side.
