After only two years playing for Serie A’s Bologna, Uruguayan international Gaston Ramirez seems to be on his way to a bigger and better club, probably not in Italy. While Liverpool, Tottenham and Juventus have shown an interest in him, it’s more than likely that Manchester City are actually the one’s closest to signing him.

The club’s General Manager, Roberto Zanzi, isn’t denying the fact that Ramirez is for sale and that it would be very profitable for Bologna if the highly sought after Ramirez moved on for the amount of money Bologna are asking for. The price, if you’re wondering, is at least £20 million.

The 21 year old Ramirez has been compared to Kaka in his style and ability, playing the attacking midfielder position. He played for Penarol in Uruguay before arriving in Italy and Bologna for the fee of €2.5 million. His first year was, well, so-so, but he really impressed by scoring 8 goals and adding 4 assists in 2011-2012, helping the club to finish ninth in the Italian league.

The only hint Zanzi was willing to drop as to the identity of the club chasing Ramirez was – an important foreign club. We are negotiating with an important foreign club for Ramirez, but their offer does not satisfy us. 

Manchester City are regarded as the closest to him due to the obvious financial reasons, although they have lost the race to sign Eden Hazard already. Still, with no Chelsea and Roman Abramovich involved in this fight for a player, it’s more than safe to assume City can offer the most to Ramirez.

Roberto Mancini himself talked about the player last month, claiming to be a big fan of his talents, simply saying Ramirez is a good young player, with great potential.
