Robin Van Persie – PFA Fans’ Player of the Year as Well

If winning the PFA Players’ and Writers’ awards for the 2011-2012 season weren’t enough, Arsenal striker Robin van Persie completed the PFA trio by also winning the Fans’ vote as well, to further cement the status of his incredible season for the gunners.

Lets not forget – Van Persie also scored 30 goals in 38 matches for the side, being the main reason they finished at third, promising another season of Champions League despite their disastrous start to the season and the calls to sack and get rid of Arsene Wenger.

All of Van Persie’s success this year amounted to individual accolades, nothing for the team. For some people, it means they’re too good for the place they’re in, and might push them to look for richer shores and better, bigger clubs. That just may be the case for van Persie, currently struggling with the Netherlands in Euro 2012, despite scoring one goal in the first two matches.

He has said he won’t talk about his future or deal with any of the offers – Arsenal new contract (his ends in June 2013) or the teams chasing him, so far known to be Manchester City and Juventus, but if I’d have to be a gambling man, I’d bet against Van Persie spending another season in North London. Everyone appreciated Arsene Wenger, but he has found it rather difficult hanging on to his biggest stars during the last couple of seasons.

Maybe that’s why the club seems to be finally going on a spending spree – Podolski has already signed, while Olivier Giroud and Alan Dzagoev are on the shortlist of newcomers to the Emirates Stadium this summer, with everyone waiting for the Euro to end so the summer transfer frenzy can begin.
